Does Sports auto use a dynometer? I seem to remember them saying the V12s puts 540 bhp to the wheels so that could explain the claimed PS and the manufacturers PS for the gt8.

Ain't on the list so didn't happen. I could start a rumor than Ben Collins jumped in an SVR and did a 7:29. McLaren did a 7:05 at most in the P1 but didn't post it. The 400s might be faster but they have to prove it. The Vulcan supposedly beat a p1 by six seconds at that big Dubai track. I know it beat a Vantage V12s by about thirty with a race car driver in the Vantage and Harris in the Vulcan. That would probably translate to 1:22-1:23 at Laguna and 1:05 at Hockenheim but we' ll never know as long as they hide in some sheiks garage.

I didn't know of any Radicals that were open wheeled. They also sell cars that have closed cockpit as well.

You are a fool to think there are no faster Lotuses. How about the lotus 2-11 which did the Ring in 7:0x?

Well I said close wheeled. The fastest Laguna time for a Bentley is 1:43.5 the slowest for an Aston is 1:43. The GT8 would be 1:37 or 1:38 as the fastest Aston ran a 1:40 with a six speed auto and much poorer weight balance.This superior balance was evidenced when the anemic 302lbs of torque original Vantage V8 beat its nose and torque heavy db9 brother 8:03 to 8:14 on the Ring.
There is little data on the 1le but the base model takes 3.1 seconds to a 100 longer than this less than powerhouse Aston. The SS 1le if it accelerates like the SS would be a little ahead as Motor Trend called the new SS a rocket and it accelerates to a 100 slightly faster than the GT8. If you mean't the ZL1 ILE the GT8 would be left for dead but that car competes with 458s and GT3's and is cheaper but hardly cheap though. I remember some chap insisting that his stock WRX lapped and quartered faster than a Vantage V12s. I pointed out that Car and Driver basically admitted to popping the clutch to get a 13.5 106 mph quarter while the Aston has done a 12.1 124. While a 141:7 lap is far from impressive for a supercar it was much quicker than the Subbies 1:48.7. Your 1le argument is the same statistically unsupported hyperbole.
The SVR would of course be faster but Jaguar fears not commensurate with its blistering acceleration. It's awd helped it improve from a tie with the Vantage V12 to nearly even with an f12 but to get into the mid 1:30's at Laguna it'll need to deal with that understeer. This car handles better than Jags as the much more powerful and also ground effects laden xkrs was a shade slower on the ring and much slower at Hockenheim.
If Aston convinced people this was a gt3 fighter that's amusing BS but they'll never know.
The driver is important. Damon Hill in a gt8 might keep up to you in an AMG gts.
A respected stunt driver appeared on fifth gear and got a 46.0 on a short track in a dbs. Tiff Needel got in immediately after and posted a 43.0.
I'm sure the Eagle is fun on the track..that giant English man seems to think so.
Lotus is the biggest puzzle as they have the weight and configuration but yet 7:53 is the best a very light 345 bhp Exige could do at Nurburgring.

An Eagle low drag isn't a modern production car not is it a track focused car. This Aston supposedly is.

I can name another British car that is faster than this Aston, any Radical... I'm sure some Bentleys will give this car a run for its money. Yes the Jag SVR, or even the F type R.

Stop trying to portray this as being some better than expected fast luxury masterpiece. Nice it is, but a cheap Camaro SS 1LE will leave it for dead.

For this price, you could get a Mercedes AMG GTR? We know how fast those things are.

And btw, about the diablo GT comparison, it's the tires, suspensions, brakes, and of course chassis differences. Put the same brand new Cup2 tires on the Diablo and I bet the car would go 15-20 seconds faster.

Sure it's dynamics not price. The Alfa is very light and mid engined both huge advantages. A very fast hatch can beat a Diablo gt cause the Diablo has all that extra weight to slow down and is pulling maybe .92-.95g vs 1g for the hatch. Sure their little toys just like an Aerial vs a Bentley. Guess which'll win?
The gt8 beats an 800k Eagle low Drag. is that expensive enough? The gt8 is only the fastest non mclaren British car cause the svr,gt12,177 and Vulcan haven't been tested. Chris Harris pointed out some reasons why the laptimes thing has gotten out of hand.
Also, considering a good amateur got an 8:02 with a Vantage v8s this package certainly hasn'the made the difference in times the zr1/zo6 made on corvettes.The British have lots of damp and mist so they like to drift more than just go fast. Still I thought at least one Lotus would be faster than this spiced up old Aston

Did he just compare a £165,000 Vantage GT8 with a £55k Alfa toy with a 1.75L engine, then say... see Astons are great track cars?

Aston kinda cares. For example just on ring times

So for a big luxury gt maker that's pretty impressive to keep pace with the best handling car if only the base version. Then there's all the handling improvements they made on the DBS to make it handle better. Then there's the whole Lemans thing as well. The Lotus compared to the DBS on this site gets spanked in almost every lap by a big heavy gt as does the 4c by the gt8 and Vantage v12s. Sure it's no match for a sls or z06 but compared to other small boutique makers like Maserati,Morgan,Lotus,Bentley or Eagle they seem very concerned with performance. A Z06 owner on youtube said that Astons are not separated from camaro ss's enough to justify the price. Fact is an 8c with a camaro ss drive train and handling would be worth 500 000 as it would handle so much better than the Alfa chassis.
That Metallica guitarist who sold his jag should get an Aston as both he and Astons are considered cool by the masses but useless by self appointed Internet tools err..experts.????

Does your average Aston owner even care about track performance? I wouldnt, Owning an Aston, And seeing how fast it is on a track would be absolutely irrelevant to me, Aston should be focusing more on beauty and comfort n more everyday usability rather then making track cars. Thas like Pagani making a car for the common working man.

Gt12 should do 7:40 at least but high end Aston owners don't like to submit their cars for tests -177,Vulcan etc.

Fastest closed wheel car from britain besides xj220 and McLarens. An ftype might a beat its Hockenheim time. Baby steps. The fastest fwd car in history barely edges it and they make it sound like it was crushed by Grandma's tdi lol. Of course some guy thinks f12s are slow. If this Aston is slow so is an f430,360cs and Diablo gt.

Without counting the Vulcan, Aston Martin doesn't make a sport cars for the track. You can't try to do a track focusing car with more than a 1600kg and lazy engine. By other hand stop to put special team for each car tested in the ring, it is not a record it is a normal lap for a car underpowered and very heavy for track focused.

Joking of course. I know it's outdated, but even with the slightly silly aero, it's still a beautiful car and it has loud n. a. V8 sound too!
