24 Badge snobs beware - KIA K900 is coming

Cover for Badge snobs beware - KIA K900 is coming

BMW fanatics, be warned - no more KIA jokes! South Korea's second largest automotive make has just presented it's first full size luxury offering - the KIA K900.

It is built on Hyundai Equus and Genesis platform and shares its overall dimensions and shape with the Equiis.

Just like Equus, the K900 (not to be confused with KIA K700/Hyundai H100 pickup truck) is generously equipped and can be considered a luxury car, worthy to compete with full size sedans from Lexus and European brands.

If KIA was entering this full size "luxo" market 10 years ago, people would laugh and find it hard to believe. Today everyone seems to be very understanding and, for many, the K900 is no surprise, after they have witnessed Hyundai's debut of Equus and KIA's existing model lineup which is very strong and has seen good reviews.

Kia is stupid for NOT building there Concept cars, Kia is ONE of THE best companys wen it comes to making concept cars, Yet they don't make them, And theres even a market place for them

Kia pretends this concept GT4 Stinger (what an epic name!!! already sounds frightening!) to be their flagman sportscar:

You might expect Kia to steal design elements? Well, this design was definitely projected by Koreans, doubtless judging by the result... Pardon, of course, might not sound much polite, but the Stinger does look as down syndrome Transformer...

What's curious about the concept, if designers installed some DECENT headlights, the car actually wouldn't look that bad... But, as always, Kia failed.

And also interesting facts: GT4 uses the turbo GDI 4-pot engine rated at 315 PS; is RWD; uses manual tranny..... This could have been a true enthusiasts sportscar! I could have a potential! But just two problems about it: who would buy a car with such a hideous face, and who would actually buy a KIA as the dream sportscar?

Yeah, definitely Kia has been hugely improved over what it used to be 10 years ago. As well as Hyundai.

However, this K900 is pretty much the same as Hyundai Equus with 7er-like exterior, which is not too classy... And at $70k?? LOL, for the same money I could buy a Porsche Panamera, or any other German, or Jaguar which are far better...

Still, Kia is.. Kia... And nothing will change that.

I checked this car last week at LA autoshow. The inside-out is not that bad, the quality of materials is good. I liked the background narration at their stand - something along the lines "Do you remember that nothing special girl from your school? ..."
Anyways for me Kia/Hyundai became serious automaker when I test drove Genesis V8 just after I drove Challenger SRT8 392, and korean sedan was not feeling any lack in power/torque department given what type of car it is.

Korean cars are getting better and better. Hyundai sonata is also so luxury but there were some complains that it rattles earlier than expected. sooner or later they will catch-up with top manufactures.

yeah seriously...
the k900 just looks like the 7 series retarded brother for almost the same price.

not sure if kia will succeed with this car.

..I also don't see this K900 stealing customers not many, If any of them, Not with this thing starting at $70,000...Most people for that money wont be buying a Kia, And will be on the options list for something else, And most will be because of the badge.

But, Unless your a BrandWhore, It shouldn't matter too much. But if its The Big Luxury car segment your going for, Kia has ALOT of competition, Including, But not limited too..

Porsche 970 Panamera $79,095
Audi D4 A8 $75,100
Jaguar X351 XJ $74,200
Bmw F02 740I $74,000
Kia K900 V8 GDI $73,450
Tesla Model S 85 $72,400
Lexus LS460 $72,140
Mercedes Benz W218 CLS550 $72,100
Hyundai Equus $68,920
Cadillac XTS VSport P Awd $68,020
Infiniti M56X Awd $64,605
Acura RLX AP $60,450

You could also factor in These as well..

Lincoln MKS EcoBoost Awd $51,075
Chrysler 300 SRT-8 $50,895
Volvo S80 T6 Awd $49,065
Dodge Charger SRT-8 392 $48,380
Chevrolet SS $45,770
VolksWagen CC V6 4Motion $42,445
Ford Taurus SHO $39,900
Buick Lacrosse P-Awd $38,865

Meh, I like the looks of this car, but from what I can see from it's hyundai equus platform mate I don't think this will be stealing too many sales from bmw anytime soon (especially in Canada, lol) http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01/hyundai-equus-sales-figures.html
according to wikipedia the 7 series sold 11,098 cars in the U.S. alone. But I definitely give Kia an A+ for effort.

Hyundai
Kia
Chevrolet
Ford
Cadillac

Are THE Top 5 most Improved Companys in the last 13 years hands down. Ive became realy impressed with them.

The car, The K900 itself is okay looking, But what really gets me is its interior, Its amazing, This may be weird as all hell to say. But the interior of....this Kia..is far better then a Porsche or a Bmw or an Audi! I know I said it, Sue me.
