At last a UK magazine has got its hands on the Bugatti Veyron Supersports - the worlds fastest car.
For their 5000th road test, Autocar chose the Bugatti and fair choice it was too. On a windy day, presumably at Millbrook, the Veyron turned in record times.
0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. 0-100 in 5.0, 0-150 in 10.2, 0-200 - 22.2 and 0-220 mph in 31.1 seconds.
Also the fastest lap time on the dry handling circuit at 1 minute 8.5 seconds.
It was a cold day, so probably this accounted for a relatively poor 0-60 time, but the top end figures are quite amazing!
The standing quarter took 10.1 seconds and the standing KM 18.0 seconds at 183.4 MPH.
Autocar gave it 4.5 stars calling it a triumph of over-engineering but a bit clinical.
Having said all this, the Bugatti is not that much faster than the fastest bike of the moment - the mighty S1000RR.
In' this months Performance Bikes mag, it clocked 150 MPH in 10.75 seconds! - so only 0.55 seconds separates these machines, admittedly on different days and tracks up to 150 MPH. A fine result for a 13 grand super bike and once again proving that for bangs for your buck, two wheels wins!
