Lamborghini Huracan does not surprise "on paper"

Lamborghini have finally revealed the long awaited Gallardo successor - the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4.

The design of Huracan LP610-4 is familiar. Proportions are same as Gallardo's and body has inherited elements of Aventador, giving this Lambo unmistakable "Lambo" look.

You can call this "conservative approach" and draw parallels with Porsche 911 or Aston Martin.

Some people, me including, expected more of a departure from the Gallardo design. Others are perfectly happy with the design and glad that Lamborghini kept it conservative, after seeing some outlandish concepts like the Veneno.

Just like visual proportions, chassis layout is same as well. Even the engine has same naturally aspirated V10 formula.

While everything seems the same "on paper", in reality, all aspects of the car have been re-engineered - new carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, new engine with 610 horsepower and new dual clutch 7 speed gearbox. All of which should contribute to a notable performance enhancement.

Lamborghini press release states 3.2 second 0-100 and 9.9 0-200 kph times. The former is rather less impressive, but the latter actually does reflect the great power to weight ratio that this car possesses. For comparison, latest generation Nissan GT-R does 200 in 10.6.

What I expected most from the new "compact Lambo" was world beating track performance. Huracan has the same recipe of a Nissan GT-R, plus a much bigger budget for the actual ingredients. So I can't help but wonder, why would it not be decisively faster than the GT-R in every possible track test?

First test drives are scheduled for January and in a coupe of months we will find out if the Huracan is indeed a new benchmark in street car track performance, or it is just another "luxury sports car" with no real excuse for being slower than a Nissan GT-R.
