8 McLaren 650S sets new Llandow lap record, beats GT3 RS

Cover for McLaren 650S sets new Llandow lap record, beats GT3 RS

Chris Harris is still doing his thing - taking press cars to track, setting laptimes and shreadding tyres in proccess.

In his latest video Chris finds out whether the 600 horsepower Aston Martin Vantage GT12 has what it takes to keep up or "beat up" Porsche 911 GT3 RS in a good old track shootout.

For extra twist, he augments this comparison between two $300k special edition sports cars with a $300k "non-special-edition" supercar - McLaren 650S, and finds out whether premium you pay for special editions is worth anything in terms of pure speed and laptimes.

The white 650S in this video is the same car Chris Harris has been driving for past 3 months as part of a long-term test.

Laptimes were not meant to be part of this test, but I am sure guys and girls in Woking will forgive - after all, the laptime and final verdict was highly favorable.

Watch the video here.

Retarded, But atleast they picked people who know about automobiles..

But we all no the outcome, The New Top Gear is gonna bomb, Its not gonna be ANYwhere near as good as the REAL TG hosts, The ratings will be in the toilet, And most likely they wont make it past a few seasons, But then again Top Gear US i think is still on...Surprisingly. But i think Sabine is the wrong person to host the show, Along with Evans, Hell Any Ferrari on the show will just get praised, Harris is the only one i think who has both the everyday car knowledge and personality to be a TG host, The other 2 dont. Ill certainly check out the first episode, But ill waith for the Big 3s new show.

Most non-UK auto enthusiasts know who CH and SS are and CE to them is the one who is "virtually unknown".

I'm much more interested in Sabine and CH than Chris Evans. Unless it's the captain America

"Virtually unknown Chris Harris and Sabine Schmitz 'to be Chris Evans sidekicks' - Telegraph.

LOL "virtually unknown". Tells a lot about the journo who wrote this. Obviously not a car enthusiast.

Just saw on Twitter that CH is going to join top gear BBC

On the Llandow track description it says, "Llandow is a relatively slow track, with overall average speed of 110 kph (68 mph.)"

If that's really the case, it doesn't sound like the 650S wins on acceleration alone. There are simply not enough space where it can take advantage of its acceleration.

the difference was so little, but for sheer handling, the RS is way ahead. The Mac is supposed to be lighter, and way more powerful. Just shows how well balanced the RS is.

Kinda surprised but at the same time im not, I think for the most part, It was down to the 650S sheer acceleration rather then overall capable handling.

Normally id choose the Aston, But they have gone from Beauty To The Beast, Which isnt something i dont think Aston should do, I hate that every car is judged on a track knowadays.
