Mercedes G63 AMG 6X6 - the ultimate big boys toy

Everyone should agree that Mercedes G class in it's AMG trim is a very silly car.

Silliness, however, has no bounds, as long as there is a market for it.

Mercedes have decided to offer a 6 wheeled version of G class SUV to private customers.

Mercedes G63 AMG 6X6, likely to become Mercedes second most expensive offering after hybrid SLS, has 2 wheels in front and 4 at back. It reminds me a lot of second world war military half tracks.

As far as traction goes - this is as close as you can get to a vehicle on tank treads and I expect many owners buying a set of add-on caterpillar tracks for the rear axles.

It's military connection is also very strong - apparently Australin army have been running those six wheelers for quite some time.

Now it's time for army of middle eastern and Russian oil barons.

@ Super8: If the Easter Bunny came to Cedar Grove, Georgia, where I live, my neighbors would shoot at it, Rabbits are a delicacy here, I've never tried it, though. That would be funny, "Here comes Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail" BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!!!! "Hey Ned, I got'em, we gone have rabbit stew fer a year, How much does it cost to mount a rabbit this big?" :D

@ CoolShirtGuy: I did not know that, the only problem I see with the Easter Bunny, is that too many parents teach their kids about it instead of the real reason behind Easter, Jesus Christ rising from the dead, that's the reason for the salvation of all who believe in him and the power and basis behind Christianity, that our savior died, and yet lives, that's the reason Easter is relevant.
PS: Sorry if I sounded too religious in this comment, I know this isn't that kind of site.

@Super8, Ferrari driver

I believe the "Easter Bunny" tradition originated in a time when it was believed rabbits/hares were capable of "virgin birth", as in reproducing without having sex. Possibly stemming from people trying to figure out how rabbits could increase their populations so quickly. From there, hares became associated with the Virgin Mary, and eventually found their way into a holiday.

So at its core, it's a relic from a time before science, when people immediately turned to the supernatural to explain anything they couldn't readily comprehend. But in this day and age, it's just something to entertain the kiddies and let them stuff their faces with more candy than usual.

@Shaggy
LOL, I think oppositely - everyone non-Catholic would save themselves running away with a fear not to be shot by Papa on such a vehicle... LOL, especially if such Papa-Rambo would visit some place in Africa with some missionary aims, natives would suppose it's the next incoming.... It takes a big laugh just to imagine Papa sitting in such a G-Wagen-monster, even without machine gun... XD

@ Ferrari Driver: I once heard they were considering mounting machine guns on the popemobile, but had second thoughts when they considered how the pope would look sitting behind a machine gun.

@Shaggy
Papamobil is the german word for Popemobile.
I forgot to translate it.
But thanks for the correction.

If it had a 3 liter diesel like military versions then it would be a useful tool for all kinds of heavy high traction workloads - plowing snow for example.

But the AMG V8TT, as efficient as it is (and it is very efficient for it's peak power output), is still not efficient enough to make this a useful vehicle for commercial applications.

Anyway, when equipped with cat tracks this will be the ultimate vehicle of choice for polar expeditions and such.

This vehicle is very useful, it combines all abilities the real off-road has to have, and this G-Wagen is the ultimate in its class. They are going to produce 20-30 units per year, $450k price. But still, with all its advantages that amount of money really just makes it a toy for Russian majors and Arabian sheikhs...

Though, the idea is perfect. If it was a massive production with a less expensive price list, the vehicle would become an excellent tool for people that have to go off-road with schick.

I like it, I don't think it's silly at all. I would have one if I were filthy stinking rich. This thing is so cool.
