94 Nissan GT-R is the performance car of decade

Cover for Nissan GT-R is the performance car of decade

Fastestlaps.com readers have decided that the best performance car of past 10 years is Nissan GT-R.

And I am not surprised nor am I disappointed. Sure, I, personally am not the biggest fan of Nissan GT-R and my vote went for Bugatti Veyron. But who cares about my opinion when there are thousands of others?

After exactly 2330 votes the car that emerged with most of them was Nissan GT-R with 37%. In second place, predictably, finished Bugatti Veyron with 30% while Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Audi R8 both recieved a lot less votes - 9 and 8 percent accordingly.

Right from the start it was clear that the winner will be decided between Veyron and GT-R. As it turned out, the massive GT-R fanboy community managed to overpower all of Veyrons 1001 horses and GT-R emerged on top as fastestlaps.com official performance car of decade.

It is a strange car. A Japanese car with more than 280 horsepower, 100 000 USD sportscar that outperforms supercars costing multiple times as much. It is a 500 horsepower four wheel drive computerized publicity stunt and now, even more excitingly, it has become the best performance car of last 10 years.

Congratulations, Nissan!

I\'ll take a Porsche 911 Turbo or 911 GT3 over Nissan GT-R in a heartbeat.

The fact that a GT-R can manage to beat a 911 Turbo by a couple tenths around \"X\" track means next to nothing in terms of driving pleasure.

It really boils down to this: Do you want a car that’ll give you more bragging rights (GT-R)? Or to you want a car that\'s the total package (911 turbo / 911 GT3)? Hell actually I\'d take a Porsche Cayman S over a GT-R.

But then again I\'m weird and more about enjoying the experience behind the wheel of an automobile that really communicates with its driver vs. one that is merely quick by virtue of computer gimmicks correcting every human error.

What are you trying to do? Get everybody to buy a 370Z?

You can't beat the performence/price ratio of the GT-R. But it has many flaws. It is NOT a good daily or long distance driver. It has loud interior cabin noise from the transmition, engine, tires and outside wind. The ride is not comfortable at all and the transmition has been refined but is still far from what you would call silky smooth. The NISSAN 370z is a much BETTER daily driver for about $50,000 less money.

280BHP was just part of the gentlemens agreement they were only restricted as such and sold like this to comply with japanese laws but they could produce way more when derestricted and modded.

"It is a strange car. A Japanese car with more than 280 horsepower." I fail to see how this is strange Jap cars have been doing this for eons and without computers what a dumb point, go look up R32, R33 and R34 if you need proof.

@Yaspaa It's performance car of decade the Focus STI or Golf GTI is about as far away from performance as you can get. I can imagine that both these cars barely produce 150BHP but I don't own either. I know the RS can produce around 230BHP or there abouts but I fail to see how any of your posts on this topic have any relevance. Your making urself look like a foo.

Performance car of decade?

I think many readers have voted the best "price/performance ratio" car of decade.

And even so, it isnt. The Z06 cost less in USA and a bit more in Europe. The performance of both are almost the same, too. (see SportAuto Supertests)

In my opinion, the performance car ever is the Porsche Carrera GT (2003-2006).

After him, his little brother 911 GT3.

people only diss the Vette for 2 simple reasons, 1: its made of cheap material, and we all know cheap is not a bad thing, and 2, there jeolous the Vette can do things more expensive cars with much better material cant.

I noticed that "Top Gear" recently awarded car of the decade to the Buggati Veyron, I can’t argue with that choice.

As far as an everyday car that seats four well I admit I can not think of a better performer that the GT-R, that is unless you live were the roads are bad. I suppose if you live were the roads are really, really bad then your performance car of the decade could be a hummer.

Yes it may be true that Z06 and the other Corvettes are made of melted down action figures. But according to JD Power the Corvette has above average reliability and True Delta reports the reliability of the Corvette also as very good. The reliability of the Engine and drive train is excellent. Considering that most performance cars made have poor or even dismal reliability I have to conclude melted down action figures maybe a good choice.

If that's true, melted down action men make good cars.

Is it me or is that Kevin full of shit lol, how can he compare a zo6 to a gtr i mean really, th zo6 is made out of melted down action men

Why are you all arguing about this? It was a vote, with the GT-R being the winner.

"After exactly 2330 votes the car that emerged with most of them was Nissan GT-R with 37%"

More people found the GT-R to be the best performance car. You can complain all you want about that result, but in the end, your opinion would be worth a little over 0.04%.

a very good everyday and fast car is the ford focus rs the golf gti the renault megane 3 rs and seat leon cupra...the supercars can be used as everyday car but they are not practical and high run costs...the best supercar for everyday use is probabily the nissan gtr cause has 4 seats a big boot and is confortable in every road

OK, your wife and 3 kids want to go shopping , what do you do? the wife wants to go to the garden centre for some garden supplies, what do you do? You drive down a street with stupidly high speed ramps, what do you do? These are all possible everyday problems which I would not want to be doing in a porsche or a GTR. An everyday day car shouldn't put you out it should make life easier. I'm not saying you can't use them everyday, I'm just saying they aren't good everyday cars where I live. I had a fiesta ST a few years ago and hated it for these reasons. Tyres were too low profile, 3dr is annoying with family and old relations.

bumrush+1, n Dude, you have no idea what your talking about. an Everyday car means a car that u use everyday, bumrush is right, thats all there is too it, a car u use EVERYday, else the term wouldnt be EVERYday, an everyday car isnt a tool, nor do you have to have 4 seats and a family, plain n simple, its a cr to use everyday.

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

Bumrush do you take everything you hear so literally? "An everyday car just means a car you use every day", bollocks. An everyday car is a tool, it gets you from a to b in reasonable comfort without breaking the bank. An everyday car is for single people, married people, married people with kids, non-married people with kids, the back seats fold down, 12000mile services, a car for almost all occasions, a car for the real world.
