Cover for Porsche retire naturally aspirated engine in 911 GTS models

The "turbification" of Porsche continues - from smallest 4 cylinder in 718 to V8 engines in Cayenne and Panamera - turbo is already the default option across the Porsche model range.

Latest convert in this down-sizing campaign is 911 GTS - the more "spicy" enthusiast flavoring of 911 Carrera S.

Regular 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S already received the same 3 liter turbo engine in late 2015. More than a year has passed and Porsche are finally dropping the 3.8 from GTS line, reserving naturally aspirated option only for GT3 and 911R. Larger 4 liter version is still available in GT3 RS.

The other enthusiast-friendly feature of GTS remains - 7 speed manual transmission option is here to stay for 2017.

The fact that 911R is now the only atmospheric 911 with manual, will almost certainly increase its second hand market value even further.

And AutoBild tested the 991.2. 593hp.

2016 Porsche 911 Turbo S: 593 hp/765 Nm (580 hp/750 Nm claimed)

This is a 991.2 as well.
http://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-991-2-turbo-turbo-s-supersport-performance-package/

Cars vary.

Low revving 3.8TT, difficult to extract much more than 650hp reliably.

991 is claimed 560hp.
991.2 is claimed 580hp.

Im sure there are much lower Huracan dyno numbers out there. There are always errors, misreads, or straight up fiction. It's called the internet

The 991 Turbo S claimed 580hp. I'm not convinced about the 20% loss for AWD either unless this Huracan has 700hp stock.

The AutoBild engine dyno also put the Turbo S at 593hp crank. So sure it's a little over but not 50hp over.

More hp than claimed is almost always for turbo cars because it's so much easier to get more hp compared to NA cars.

Turbo S is AWD. That would put it at a 20% loss. The 991 claimed 560hp. 489/0.8 = 611hp. Which is not unexpectedly especially was it sport auto that dynod one of the facelifts at 630?

Their cars are already producing 10% more power than claimed. So in theory, if they say the car has 650hp, it's got 700+.

User avatar

They couldn't achieve 700hp without water injection but there was mention of an overboost function potentially giving that much for a short period.

650hp (probably actual power near 700), cup2 tires, Rear wheel steering, <1500kg. It will be mighty. I'm curious what would be the pricing of one.

Yeah I'll google for press release.

Don't they usally just claim it whenever they release a car? Either way just say manufacturer claimed latimeshould for now

Have Porsche mentioned these times in their press releases? I am just thinking what to refer to as the source of these laptimes.

And 7:22 with Pzero Corsas, which is pretty impressive because I'm sure if they put Cup 2s, the time will drop a further 4 secs.

7:22 min on Ring with new P Zero Corsa N0 semi-slick tyres.

7:26 on Ring according to e.g. Motorauthority. Pretty nice result.

Not a fan of Turbofication, Im all about keeping that heritage, But if they were gonna turbo there cars, Or atleast most 911s, I really wished they had used a Single Turbo, And keep the actual 911 Turbo a TwinTurbo, And lets be honest, The GT3 wont stay natural for too much longer, Nor will Porsche offer manuals in the future, They stand out the most as far as German brands go, But im sure they will follow the rest in there own way, Theyll offer these "Pure" driving cars, But each year theyll get closer to less pure and more machine, Its only a matter of time before they become Bmw..
