17 Quattro concept gets all techie and serious

Cover for Quattro concept gets all techie and serious

Three years after 2010 Paris Motor show, where Audi first revealed the 21st century Quattro coupe, Audi are back with a more rounded and production ready coupe - the Audi Sport Quattro concept.

While it looks to be something that is more likely to make it to production lines, the power train is actually more extreme and complex than in 2010.

This Quattro concept employs Audi's latest 4 liter 560 horsepower twin turbo V8 from RS6 and S8, and an electric motor with 147 hp. Electric motor is powered by a lithium ion battery, making this Quattro a plug-in hybrid, with average fuel consumption of just 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers (94.09 mpg US).

These are numbers that previous concept couldn't match, but they don't seem to help the process of actually bringing this coupe to mass production.

I believe the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder turbo engine which the previous concept had, and is currently available in Audi TT-RS, was much more appropriate both historically and economically.

If this 2013 version of Quattro body was combined with 2010 2.5 engine, that would make it a truly compelling and "down-to-Earth" sports car concept, able to compete with likes of Porsche Cayman S and BMW M4.

Interesting links haven't seen these designs before. My prediction:
Quattro concept=2014 TT design
Nanuk concept=2015 R8 design

Ah, damn! My article is exactly about the Nanuk concept. But it seems, FastestLaps will never publish it...

This car looks fantastic! I thought a bit overpowered though.

A shame they most likely wont put it into production, Audi makes some of the best Concept vehicles, Id like to see more Off-Road type SuperCars like the Mega Track, I think the world needs those.

But the hell with this battery hybrid bullshite, pretty soon we will be remotely driving our cars.

I would be excited about this car if only it wasn't a hybrid, I don't hate it, I don't like it, either.

It looks nice and I think this concept will evolve into the next R8 or TT. I think next year the answer will come..

It weights too much but without hybrid system it would weight less than GT-R and thats all with 4.0 V8. But GT-R actually is heavy pig for car that it is. Audi should work with more carbon fiber, magnesium and other good stuff.

3 years ago I was amazed by the Quattro Concept.. in fact I still am.

This new one also looks grat.
Of course the i5 engine was more appropriate but I'm ok with the V8 (not 100% convinced about the hybrid though).

The problem is its weight. WTF with this 1850kg?

They are talking about light materials, that the nex-gen A4, Q7 etc. will be much lighter.. and now 1850kg? It shouldn't be more than 1500-1600kg.

If that's not enaugh.. there's another one. Audi Nanuk Concept, which weights even more.. 1900kg (btw. it has fugly front).

I don't get it...

If your comment was pointed on me, then your wrong. I did not hate the car. I actually love Audi and the whole VW Group. But I think they could do a better job with this car. This new Sport Quattro concept lacks in charm of the original one. That's why I'm someway disappointed.

Of Course you will be disappointed because Audi going to make another amazing car and you are mad hater.

Sorry, i didnt want to offend anyone or any producer. It just my humble opinion. Dont take it too serious if you dant want to. Im sure that Audi and their concepts have lots of fans and many people like it, but im simply disappointed.

How anyone can feel this car? Can feel the driving? Its so big, so isolated, so heavy. All those hybrid. But hard to judge it until production and reviews.
It smells for me for restyed RS5, with S8 engine. and hybrid weight.

I have to say, I'm someway agreed with Piorun.

The Quattro concept should have been more conservative, closer to its roots - super-agile, light rally-fighter. The weight should have been not more than 1.5 tonne The power should have come from the Inline-5, outputting 600+ PS, via a S-tronic to the most advanced AWD. Quattro, by its ideology, should be a king at the rallycross. But I doubt this concept one can be a dominator there.

Currently, I don't think I would have too much pleasure from driving a 1.85 tonne hybrid, that is equipped with a crappy transmission. This concept just seems as an RS5 with a hybrid. Not the same feeling of the classic Sport Quattro. So I would prefer exactly the original one.

Audi could have done a better job with this car.

not sure what u are talking about.
audi stepped up their game and the new rs and s models do have much less understeer and are also much better track machines than audi used to be

I love rally type of cars like Evo and Impreza STi. They are super fun to play in any conditions. The fasstest machines that You can get for gravel and dirt roads. You will not find anything faster for snow either.

I would love to see actually progression to orginal concept from 1984. Light car, with modern AWD, balanced, with juicy sound of 5 cylinde motor.

But this is not this "Audi" this is WV AG now. And it seems they are doing nothing for true driving enthusiasts. They are dooing some creepy looking, understeer, heavy weird stuff for "modern people". A lots of people that i know that like it are some teenangers that know nothing about cars or driving and they are excited about new LED lights and the size of grill or side vents.

This new quattro concept with so heavy engine at nose, with this quatrro that understeers. That is shame. Ofcourse its fast, it might looks atractive, but other than that... where is driving pleasure, where are rally-cross roots?

Seems like Mitubishi Evolution from 15 years ago do it better.

I dont hate this car. But it weight around like Bentleys weight. It would be not agile car. Ofcourse it got all those hybid stuff, but... its good for town, not for long canyon road, or rally sesion in forrest.
