12 Spied! Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette Caught Winter Testing

Cover for Spied! Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette Caught Winter Testing

New high quality spy-shots of the alleged "mid-engine Corvette" have surfaced on the Internet once again.

In these pictures you can see two heavily camouflaged sports-cars side-by-side,in what appears to be winter testing session.

Proportions of the two are notably different - one with the longer bonnet and rear wing looks like a member of front-engine C7 family, while the more masked-up car in foreground clearly exhibits a shape that is not characteristic to any Corvette or GM sports-car in current lineup.

The new shape is clearly of a mid-engine car, with more forward positioned cabin to allow for engine mounting behind the seats.

Its a possibility since it has been getting more popular, But i doubt it.

I wonder if this car will have 4 wheel steering.

This happens alot. People have just been so nosey they just cant wait for the damned car to be revealed, Just like snotty little impatient kids on Christmas peeking in there parents closet to get a look at presents. Im pretty sure McLaren used a Lotus to hide there MP4 when it was in development, i think Mercedes actually bought a Viper to do the same with there SLS, Chrysler and Mitsubishi have done it too, Either way, Even if they took the full camo off, It really wuldnt reveal anything.

@saxy i definitely agree with what you are saying. It would be awesome if the use the Gen 1 NSX facelift version for styling cues. I think the Gen 1 NSX is one of the nicest looking production cars every made.

Camo silouhettes are always misleading. The mclaren 720s in camo looked very 458 italia-ish but when the actual car came out, it looked quite different

@fastestlaps i agree. I think the rear of the car reminds me of the Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept.

Am I the only one who's first thought upon seeing this was "That's a Honda NSX!!!"?

Couple things.

1: Im like Meh on the whole thing, Im not that excited.

2: Theres no difinitive name, But it seems its gonna be called 1 of 2 things, Either the Zora, Or the Corvette Zora, Possibly Zora R1, Or Corvette Zora R1, but again nothing is for certain.

3: Depending on how much Corvette actually goes into it, Or if its actually the C8 in disguise, The neam could be something different or remain the same, Or just another staple in another version, And the whole Vette range could just be mid engined, Who knows.

If it's mid-engine, it's no longer a Corvette. IMO

They have to call it something else. It's a fundamentally different car then and using a Corvette name for it, will mean that "Corvette" is no longer an actual car model, but rather a vague marketing name for Chevrolet sports-coupes.

That would be 2 completely different chassis... not a very smart cost effective idea

@saxy Gm has been thinking about making a mid engine corvette since the 60's with multiply mid engine concepts but never decided to do it until now. I pretty sure the are going to sell the mid engine and front engine version side by side.

I just think... if it's a mid engined supercar, shouldn't it no longer be called the corvette?
