2 Subaru reveals WRX STi - "bread and butter" performance

Cover for Subaru reveals WRX STi - "bread and butter" performance

White it is fun to see La Ferraris and McLaren P-Ones on display, real world performance cars with real world prices can be even more exciting.

For many of us, cars like Mitsubishi Lancer EVO or Subaru WRX STi represent a very tangible dream of performance car ownership.

2014/2015 WRX STi is all-new and back to it's sedan roots. However, the structural formula is nothing new at all. It is four wheel drive with a 2 liter boxer four cylinder turbo engine.

Despite being a new engine with an array of new technologies, it still produces around 300 horsepower. It will take months for established Subaru tuners to gauge the tunability and performance headroom in this new boxer four. It is, of course, natural to expect nothing but improvements.

While the body is all-new and seandan-only for the STi, it would be quite a stretch to call it "exciting design".

To me it looks rather bland. If cars were living organisms with DNA pairs, you could achieve a similar design by simply mating a Honda Civic sedan with an EVO X.

I think this year's Detroit was quite significant. Z06, 991 Targa, RC F, M4, Mustang, WRX STI, Benz C-Class are a hell of premieres.

And I much rather prefer the new design over the outdated. Subaru just had to improve the engine to stay competitive... Still, the 2005 WRX STI is the best ever.

"Why pay for this when you could have the new Golf R?"

Well, I'm quite a fan of Golf R, but I think I'd take into consideration WRX STi because of one reason - soundtrack. While Subaru might lose on the track, but nothing can beat that Boxer-4 exhaust!

This years Detroit AutoShow is JUST like last years, 1 maybe 2 cars..ONLY caught my attention, A bit disappointing.

And this new STI. The last Generation, NON HatchBack looked Fantastic! Best one since the late 90s model Coupes, But this one, The rear is just plain, Those lights, Head and tail, Those EXTREMELY small rims, And the SAME power as the last 12 Years, I like STIs, But there just getting boring, Why pay for this when you could have the new Golf R? Or the 1LE? Or the M135i? for practically the same price?

Mitsubishi...Your turn..
