28 The new, "down-sized" Audi RS5

Cover for The new, "down-sized" Audi RS5

Unlike previous two iterations of RS5, 8T3 and 8T3 facelift, the new 9T RS5 uses turbocharged power. Unfortunately, it is not the famous 4 liter twin turbo 8 - it's a V6.

A5 is Audi's largest coupe, and I was expecting RS version to have something more exotic than twin turbo V6, especially when peak power is not improved, compared to outgoing atmospheric V8.

As far as visuals - I think the RS treatment is done well and is not distasteful, like you would expect from Audi. I just think the 8T was prettier design to begin with.

Performance will be good and likely better than it used to be with the V8. Audi state 0-100 time in 3.9 seconds.

If previous RS5 was slightly above BMW M3 E92 in performance and price, this time Audi seem to be determined to target BMW M4 more directly.

Actually me and my friends including wife go every end if the week, But I didn't no you had to go to track days to be an enthusiast..

Anywhoo York not a real automobile enthusiast if you call any car trash regardless og what car, A real enthusiast loves all automobiles and respects all cars no matter where thy come from, it's respecting the art hat is the auto and enjoying it's airfare for whatever reason, That's why makes one a true car enthusiast, Working on countless engines does not make you an enthusiast, And yes if a member here has a comment directed at themy they will answer, That's what keeps thus sit going, Nobody here is frustrated by your ignorant and utterly stupid comments, hell we see this everyday, It's entertainment for me.

You say you're a car enthusiast with a lot of track day experience and lots of work on engines and you can't afford an ancient E55? I feel bad for you.

And btw you're a jerk. Get off this site if you have such a wonderful life To get back to.

E55 in my country is not relatively cheap plus the maintainance is astronomical.
I'm not a car enhusiast? How many times were you driving around a track? 0 or 0 times? I worked on countless engines, mainly from bikes and am a car/bike enthusiast since when i can remember.
Obviously i have a life also, you two are rotting on this site, crawling for a comment to answer so you can fulfill your frustrations ;)

...But he/she isnt a car enthusiast...

User avatar

saxy  8m ago

Btw, if you really like the E55 so much, I'm sure you can go buy one. Looking at my local car ads and they are dirt cheap. Though it might be a money pit afterwards. But if you are a car enthusiast and love the car so much, you would really love it.

Lol. The only person throwing tantrums is you kid. T stands for turbo. The very whole point of you starting the argument was that you said I was wrong to say Audi cars are good for going from A to B nicely. And you explain that Audis have nicer interiors.

And nothing have you mentioned about driving dynamics. The only thing you have to say is BMWs have cheap interiors. And that you feel like shit when you sit in one.

Let me tell you a life lesson here. You shouldn't need to sit in a nice car to feel great about yourself. And even if you can't afford a luxury car or something, you should never feel negative about it. I'm perfectly happy happy taking the subway, or driving an old (ugly interior) bargain sports car even if I could afford the latest models.

Oh btw, why has BMW gone for FWD in the future, because their are too many car buyers like you who have no preference on driving dynamics but care more about price and backseat space.

Oh snap! Shites bout to get real!

User avatar

Yes that's why Bmw began making FWD cars lol. And it was a 1.8T quattro, T stands for petrol. 3.0tdi i have now is also quattro. And i own these cars because i can't afford an RS5 or E55 or whatever. If i would have money and would want a RWD would definitely go for a 911. Mercedes if i wanted to add some luxury. But for an overall quality with performance an R8 v10, v10 plus would do it. You must be a little kid throwing arguments like that based on what i own.

User avatar

saxy  8m ago

Someone who owns a FWD 1.8TDi telling me about how Audis are more driver focused than BMW...

Even the most basic BMW 116i is RWD, 50/50 weight distribution with the battery in the trunk.

And about the E55 is nice but still a big barge that goes well in a straight line mostly. The M5 was a much more interesting car... hell even the RS6 was too.

...Your not a real car enthusiast if you call ANY car trash.

User avatar

You must compare coupe to coupe. Actually yes i meant the E55amg, my bad. I don't care if it's slower by a second around track, driven by a professional. Still would be the first choice when looking for a RWD car with good driving and luxury combined. The thing is when i sit in a Bmw i feel like shit. And that goes for many other people i know. I own an Audi A6 C6 3.0tdi and before i had an A4 1.8t, but at the beginning i was taking into consideration Bmws and Mercs. However Mercs were too expensive and Bmws like i said, not worth mentioning. Btw i'm a car enthusiast and i like to drive fast, i also go to trackdays on our local track sometimes etc and i've driven hundreds of cars new and used as my friend is a car seller. Bottom line, i would respect Bmw if it would cost as much as it's worth, half the price.

....I'm a BMW fanboy?....

..Shite thas news to me..

User avatar

saxy  8m ago

E63 amg from 2005 and do drifts in it and all? I think your repair bills will exceed the cost of your car in a a couple years. Oh... btw, there is no such thing as a E63 from 2005. They only had a E55. The E63 came the next year, and that car is much slower than an M3 around the track.

faster around the track? those numbers are skewed in favor for the Audi because it's 3 years newer... AND, that you didn't compare it to the M3 sedan.

http://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/7g5l9g2titop

The M3 sedan shouldn't be slower than the M3 coupe, and clearly these lap times show they are the same virtually, and that's with the help of Audi AWD, and 3 years of development advantage.

seems like the BMW did pretty well.

User avatar

SupersonicCastrol  8m ago

+saxy I also said it's faster around track not just luxury wise. And i bring up Bmw because BR2 is obviously a biased bmw cryboy. You know people buy Bmw for one of the two reasons - RWD and looks (when every 2nd bmw has m-optic). However if i would want a RWD car i'd get me a 2005 E63amg or something like that, driftable + premium quality. But fanboys like BR2 will die in pain knowing what a trash can Bmw is. And i don't even have a reason to hate Bmw, it's just the way it is.

User avatar

BR2+  8m ago

...Im also curious as to why he would even mention Bmw or any kind of luxury comparison?...

User avatar

saxy  8m ago

The majority of Audi cars sold are FWD and FWD based. Many of their performance cars have their engines placed in front of the front axle.

And supersonic... what have you said that counters my argument? I said it's not a drivers car... it's a car that you feel nice going from A to B. And your answer is... the interior of the Audi feels more premium and luxurious. wouldn't that confirm my point?

A driver's car doesn't focus on luxuries, but on driving dynamics involvement and excitement.

User avatar

BR2+  8m ago

You your definetly not a huge Audio fanboy at all, I just do not see a ounce of Audio fanboyism in you at all..

And Audio top 5 most reliable?.................

Plus an 8T RS5 and E92 M3 are practically the same with both acceleration n track times.

User avatar

SupersonicCastrol  8m ago

@saxy From A to B?Lol. You are talking about Audi my friend, obviously you're a Bmw fanny. However Bmw never ever won a luxury comparison against Audi, with the same year/class car. Also Bmw tends to break a lot where Audi is in top 5most reliable brands on road.
Sit in one and feel the premium, in Bmw is just cheap plastic. Plus there is greatest racing history behind Audi brand and longer tradition as well. Believe me i've driven them all (Audi, Merc, Bmw). Btw on most tracks the RS5 demolished the then direct competitor e92. Will see how much did they improve with the new one, taking in consideration that the TT RS absolutely outperforms almost any Bmw with 100+hp.

User avatar

saxy  9m ago

Audi is all about "nice" cars adapting to modern technology. Nothing about being drivers cars. You can't even get a manual RS car.

They are really nice to live with and just going from A to B.

User avatar

BR2+  9m ago

Audi isnt known for driver involvement, Not for a long time, They dont care about that anymore.
