35 The "Raging Bull" attacks Nurburgring - Aventador SV posts 6:59

Cover for The "Raging Bull" attacks Nurburgring - Aventador SV posts 6:59

It looks like we have a new hero at Nurburgring Nordschleife - Lamborghini Aventador Super Veloce has joined the exclusive "Sub 7 Minute Supercar Club".

Let me correct myself. There is no "Sub 7 Minute Supercar Club". According to Fastestlaps Nurburgring leaderboard, as of today, there are only 2 distinct vehicles that have gone quicker than 7 minutes, and one of them - the Radical SR8 (and SR8 LM) is not even a proper car.

There was only one car with a roof, doors and a windscreen, that had cracked the 7 minute benchmark before, and that was the Porsche 918 - a member of the new hypercar breed, league above Aventador, Ferrari F12 or any other "ordinary supercar".

This achievement by Lamborghini is a surprise, and not a surprise at the same time. With correct setup and sticky tyres, Aventador SV looks, on paper, like something that could be knocking on the door of sub 7 minute greatness. It has the power and it has the means of putting it to work through the 4 wheels.

The latter can't be said about certain hypercar by McLaren, which failed to post a sub 7 minute time or any time at all. Of course, it gets even worse if we mention the red car from Marinello. But let's not mention it, because this time is's all about yellow, orange and the "Raging Bull" from Bologna.

One day I'll like to see Lambo with around 850PS from natural aspirated V12 kicking asses of 918, LaFerrari and P1.

Long live to natural aspirated V12!

Its about time a statement car like the Lambo finally gots its name where it deserves to be,these cars should be built for nothing more than supercar times.

"if we sent our fastest bull straight to hell, would it be able to get out in less than seven minutes?"

you won't be hearing ferrari say something like that to promote their car

no idea dddd, all I see in this Video is some driving that deserves respect. Though critically speaking driver might have received a stop & go for at least 2 corners he cut (means inside of wheel crossing respective track-borderline). Still, with such a narrow and tough track, respect to both - car&driver. I would be glad not to have crashed after an under 7:40 time around the Ring no matter what car I used for that to be honest..amount of Focus needed for a Close to 7 time is personally incredible.

I have read/heart that 918 above ~ 150-160 mp/h (?) receives power only from petrol engine. It doesnt sound right because with 600 bhp that car wouldnt be fast above 300 km/h with its weight and downforce.

918 will be oblitereted by Aventador SV, Laferrari and P1 above 300 km/h if it is a fact.

Anyone knows ?

no the 918 definitely was faster on the straights albeit the last straight. The 918 reaches above 300kph in several places while the lambo could only do 290 albeit the last straight when Marc ran out of juice. In sport auto's run, they hit similar back straight speeds tho because they had plenty of juice left in the tank. As a whole, yes, the lambo has a higher top speed because the 918 loses its front motors once passed 250kph, but on track, it's about how quick you can gain and keep speed, and the 918 is really good at. Porsche definitely left time on the table, and I wonder if they will do the run again with their full production versions.

Hey, I don't want it to ever end. We already lost Best Motoring and TopGear, what would the world be like if we also didn't have the Nurburgring hype :D

And the Nurburgring advertising and hype continues. Will it ever end? New Dodge Viper SRT ACR, your turn.

This Lambo has more raw power than Porsche 918.

It is a faster high speed car. I have no doubt the 918 did not reach the speeds that SV did in the straights.

Nurburgring might seem like a "green hell of endless corners", but it really actually is rather fast track and favors power.

First the Balocco loss and now this. 918 doesn't seem that fast on laps lasting more than 2 minutes.

This might sound childish, but I do love the fact that proper supercars are regaining top positions in the Nurburgring ranks. No more GT-R and Z06 anarchy. The empire strikes back and the monarchy returns :D

@dddd
458 no laptimes @ Ring, F12 is a bit slow cause too soft setup

User avatar

dddd  10y ago

@Manone I should have written my point more precisely. Modern Ferrari cars (Speciale and especially F12) are slow on Nordschleife in comparison to real competitors. Ferrari Enzo and 458 were great in their times. We will see whether 488 GTB is able to compete with Mp4-12c, 650S, Huracan, 991 Turbo/S, 991 GT3/ RS or not.

Anyway Lambo achieved great result with that version.

@dddd: not always. back in the days, a magazine (evo?) did a test with privately owned koenigsegg, carrera gt, ferrari enzo, zonda f and maserati mc12. location: nurburgring, pilot: m. basseng. ferraris/maserati went pretty fast indeed...if i well remember all the cars were stock and owned by the same person. if only all the tests were done like this...

That's one blazing fast lap.

User avatar

saxy  10y ago

Now if a Lambo looks THAT good and goes THAT fast, I can't fault it.

User avatar

dddd  10y ago

@Manone Good points. Nevertheless for example Ferrari cars (somehow) are hilariously slow on Nordschleife regardless off drivers and service.
