7 Three reasons to follow Formula 1 and MotoGP in 2015

Cover for Three reasons to follow Formula 1 and MotoGP in 2015

If you lost interest in Formula 1 after Mercedes domination last year, you should, perhaps, give the 2015 season a try.

If nothing else, Ferrari will be more competitive this year, and Sebastian Vettel will have a chance to prove his worth outside the once dominating Red Bull Racing.

Both Ferrari and Vettel had unexpected win in Malaysia Grand Prix two weeks ago, and, this may be a sign of more good things to come for Ferrari, after years of failure.

I should add that Vettels win was not as a consequence of Mercedes drivers tripping over each other - it was due to the sheer speed of Ferrari on that day. Whether this speed will still be there tomorrow in China with different track layout and cooler temperature, remains to be seen.

First race of the MotoGP season in Qatar was a classic. Rossi win starting from middle of the pack and after a fierce battle with Andrea Doviziozo was the best possible outcome for the fans and the sport in general. Unless you are a Marc Marquez fan, of course.

Qatar race also showcased the speed of Ducati who seem to be competitive enough to make it a three horse race between themselves, Honda and Yamaha for the constructors championship. Not only did Ducati fly past Yamahas in the straights, they also were competitive in corners and braking throughout the track.

So it looks to be Ferrari, Ducati and Valentino Rossi to watch out for in the elite motorsports this season.

LMP is not actually faster than say... A Mercedes F1 car, but it would give some teams a run for their money. At the start of the race or when the tires are getting old, a midfield F1 car will be slower than a diesel Audi R18
I'm hoping to see new lap records and total distance records next week =)

At least Ferrari is back on the map. And Vettel is really proving his worth.

As far as LMP1 cars being faster than F1 - i can't believe it. That would be a first. F1 has pretty much always been the fastest racing cars on tarmac.

P.S. can't wait for Le Mans 2015

actually, I take it back, there's little hope this year in F1. Congrats Lewis, see everyone next year.

Now HELLO WEC! LMP1 cars are some 3 seconds faster around Spa compared to last year. corner speeds are easily even faster than F1 cars right now despite the tires are much more durable, able to run 1.5 grand prix distances... In fact, in non-qualifying form, as in with fuel during the race, it's possible that WEC cars can be faster than F1 cars. Typical F1 cars last year at silverstone were lapping in the 1:40s and the fastest LMP1 car this year was 1:39.xx

If it wasn't for Ferrari this season would be even more depressing than last. Far more depressing. Because RedBull is basically down the drain. All Renault teams are down the drain.

Not to mention McLaren, who, thanks to honda, is one of the slowest teams in F1...

But I do understand that it's the first year in F1 for Honda, and there will be a lot of proggress for them.

Renault, on the other hand, really dropped the ball. They were bad last year, but this year they came back to be even worse...

The only reason I watch F1 this year is Max Verstappen... :P

Vettel and Ferrari have definitely made this season more exciting. Even circuits around the world have reported much increases of ticket sales ever since the Malaysian grand prix. But ultimately I don't think Vettel has a chance given the Merc has more horsepower, more downforce, and more balance.

However I do bet Vettel will finish higher in the standings than Rossberg.
