Battle for front-wheel drive supremacy is heating up, as Volkswagen release a new special-edition for the seventh generation Golf GTI.
VW Golf GTI Clubsport S has 310 metric horsepower which is on par with other "super-hatches".
The sub-50 second laptime places it in unfamiliar landscape, normally inhabited by far more powerful rear-wheel drives, like the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series or Lamborghini Murcielago.
It is commonly known that when a manufacturer gets involved with setting Nurburgring records, usually you end up with better results, presumably, because the in-house engineers know how to set the car up and driver gets plenty of chance to practice and familiarize with the car.
