Its a hatchback with only 230bhp, that time is awesome considering! I'd love to
see a corvette keep up with that down a twistie demanding lane! At Millbrook UK
(demanding road test facility) the normal R26 without semis etc beat the latest
sti by 4secs on the road course!
Semi-slicks or not it's surrounded by RWD and AWD cars sometimes twice
powerful...semi-slicks aren't giving you that much of an advantage, I'm not sure
you guys have really driven a FWD car, I did on the nurburging and some turns
are really hardcore when the wheels are turning and making the car move at the
same time, the only good side is unlike other I did not spin and crash..only
understeered straight through an S-turn "taking a shortcut" lol
who would buy this over an rs ford it doesnt even have back seats. It is to
focussed and it for the price you could have a caterham or an atom or a lotus
and none of them pretend to be practical
FYI the 8.17 time was using the 'Standard' road tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 2
235/40R18). A couple of days later they apparently managed 8.12 using the
optional fit semis (Toyo Proxes R888 225/40R18), although I have yet to find a
primary source for the faster time.

Time clocked with R compound....lol. I think Fastestlaps need to add a note to
the time and add the standard tire time of 8'24" to the entry.
To the dude who said "semi-slicks aren't giving you that much of an advantage".
Thanks for the laugh and why are you here? That is the most stupid comment I've
encounter on any auto related forum.
evo Car of the year Gallery
Spectacular imagery of the 16 contenders shortlisted for eCoty
November 2008
We bring you 2008’s most epic test. We’ve agonised, whittled down and eventually
settled on the 16 cars that have impressed us most over the last year. The first
ten are all what we describe as ‘real world’ cars – those that most of us could
imagine owning one day without needing to marry for money or short-sell shares
in Volkswagen. We’re in Wales for this part.
The winner from Wales then leaps across to Part 2 and joins our top six
surreal-world cars and blasts across to France. The old pit straight at Reims is
our starting point, the spectacular Mont Ventoux is our final destination. At
the end of it all, one car will be crowned champion and stand aloft the windy
mountain’s blustery summit. David Vivian is your scribe with his head in the
clouds.
For the winner and full story, see this month's copy, evo issue 125, on sale
Wednesday 12 November.
“The steering, brakes, power delivery, ride and handling will put a smile on
anyone’s face”, said John Barker, Evo’s Motoring Editor. “The R26.R flows like
the very best cars, regardless of cost.”
“The unquestionable hero of eCoty 2008 is the Mégane R26.R.” commented
Contributing Editor David Vivian. “Had the contest been judged purely on a
cross-country pace-to-price ratio, Renaultsport’s ultimate, lightweight
expression of its hot Mégane would have been a runaway winner."
Amazing car, and well done to Renault for selling such a hardcore hatchback and
a well sorted drivers car too that delivers in everyway on track, road, and fun
(bar practicality lol).
But got to admit, for everyday use the normal R26 is more sensible, and not that
much slower if you plan to have a remap too and buy some toyos R888's for the
summer.
Will hopefully but a second hand normal R26 next summer (in white or yellow).
