if i'm don't go wrong the engine of the zl1 was handbuild and hapends the same than the gt-r, in japan has proved one and it gives 475hp but in america have proved other and has 507. i have seen it in top gear.

McSalsa@: Not only a 1969 could run in high 11's but it's could be even faster...first of all 430hp is not the real output. Second, The COPO (like many Muscle Cars) had a short differencial.

The car is a 1969 built? So what? Modern car doesn't mean exaclty a faster car. You heard about the energy crisis in 1973? So the cars after that became more efficient and tecnological, but not improve so much in power or performance in straight line, capisce?

Not only was this engine actually around 550 hp stock but it is also a 110 lb aluminum block. WOW that is 40 years ago. Imagine not needing a engine hoist to put in a big block haha RAWR

Srry for reopening a really old post

The 69 Zl1 could do 11.8s / If you ptook off the stock headers with slicks the car could do 10.5-10.7

More "Offical" specs:

Offical 0-100: 5.3 seconds
Offical 1/4 Mile: 13.16 seconds
Offical Torque: 450lb feet

The video I put above says otherwise, but since we are using the GM 430hp rating...might as well put these down too.

True.

Nissan GT-R is underrated example of modern cars. Nearly all independent tests show higher output than factory spec. But it is always safer to stick to official manufacturers data.

Yeah, but many Muscle Cars were also underrated. The Ford 428 Cobra Jet was a prime example- rated at 335hp, but Dyno testing showed over 400. And I doubt a 430hp car from 1969 could run 11.8s. But if we must go by factory specs, then ok.

If they claimed 430 then we have to keep it 430. The one with 550 may have been modified/tuned for more output than others.

A video of this car battling the Yenko 427 Camaro at the Dragstrip. Both cars are stock.

Yes, but GM only claimed 430. They also put this engine in a Corvette...only 3 or so of those exist, however.

OK, I re-uploaded the car with fixed stats and a better picture. About 60-70 ZL1 Camaros were built in 1969, and they usually go for over $400,000+ in auctions today.

Oh my God! Was it really 550 hp in 1969?
