2001 Chevrolet Corvette C5Z06 '02-'04

Points of correction:
Georg is correct...The M12 (not M16) 6-speed causes the Z06 model of C5 Corvette to have a lower top speed than a normal C5 despite having a higher RPM limit and more power, this is due to its gearing. The M12 has more aggressive gearing to increase torque multiplication in most forward gears, allowing for more rapid acceleration and more usable torque at higher speeds.

That being said...Unless you are running full out all the time, or have a free pass to open her up at the Nurburgring...or Salt Flats...why does top speed matter?? The car is very impressive considering price, maintenance, handling and overall performance. Plus the ability to modify and beat then numbers posted is well within reason.

What other car in its class can reach an average MPG of 29-30 (thanks to that economic 6th gear)
I love mine...and have no intention of trying to hit 174...or 180 MPH.

At what point did I say the Z06 wasn't impressive? I said the lap time wasn't impressive, I think the C5Z could actually do better. I was criticizing the T-56, and I'm not the only one in the C5 community that doesn't like it... Fool.

We all know this car is impressive, we dont need you to tell us tat, its quite obvios this car is has great performance given the power n price.

If you really think that the zo6 isnt impressive then you are just ignorant. go to the compare section of this site and compare it to to things like the audi R8 and carrera s and all these other cars that are brand new and go for well over 2 times as much and then say that. face!

Hey Georg, you are correct about the top speed, but if you think the C5Z06 can't match up to the 360 or the 996 turbo, I suggest you check the times for the other C5Z06. You will find it indeed turns in similar lap times to both of them.

can´t you read Mr Anonymous.. it use the shorter M16 transmission which did not allow higher topspeeds as 171mph which is reached at redline

@ FastestLaps: Normally, this car has exact same hp as the previous C4 ZR-1(405 hp). Shouldn't they at least have the same top speed? Makes sense, right? Anyhow, I know this has more acceleration because it's more lightweight.

Majority of sources indicate top speed between 168 to 171 mph. Car in that video probably is modified.

This car HAS a bigger top speed. There's no way it has the same top speed as the 385 hp version.

I love it when you guys compare factory claims with sportauto supertest northloop numbers of other manufactory.. :)) The 1997 Corvette was tested by sportauto with 8:40min, the 2003 C5(special edition with Z06 suspension parts) with 8:18min, the 2005 C6 with 8:15min... driven by the same guy who drove the 360CS and 996 Turbo time you use as referenz...

wtf you mean 7:56 aint good? thats fkn awesome look at other cars with even more hp andmor than double the price. look at the 360 cs more power ,lighter and 4 yimes its price, same withe the 996 911 turbo double its price and more power more torque and 4wd..with 2 turbos..so id say thats pretttyyy damn good..

The C5 Z06 WON'T hit over 174. You have to love cars with short fifth gears and useless 6th gears -_- Not to mention that 7:56 isn't too good considering it's specs...

The C5 Z06 used the short geared M16 transmission..the topspeed was reached in 5th gear at engine redline of 6500rpm .. the 6th gear was an overdrive/economy gear there the engine lacked the power to reach higher speeds!

wiki is NO reference a high speed test of a US car by a US car magazine is a referenc and there they claim the car only reach 174mph!!!!!!! Show me a topspeed test were the car realy reached higher speeds

ya know whatever if this site adminostrators arent going to put the right data for there cArs (hence top speed)then the hell wiith them, we all know the vettes top speed and thats all that matters, so whatever.

C5 Z06 does reach over 181mph. Please don't reference magazine articles, that's infantile. But there is no sence addressing a TT owner so... Oh well.

stop spamming..who cares what they claim.. even in US tests the C5 Z06 failed to reach the number claimed here... at the 2003 Motortrend topspeed shootout the C5 Z06 reached disapointing 174mph so we don´t change it to 181mph if you can´t come up with a test were the Z06 reale reached that speed...
