I ran 12.2 @ 113 mph in the 1/4 mile this past weekend in my S6, so the previously-published performance figures are accurate.

The various on-line HP calculators suggest that 485-518 flywheel HP is required to achieve my car's measured performance.

You are bang on old chap.

I was recently, Well about 2 months ago, Able to witness the dyno of a 2015 S4, And that made 387Bhp and 342Lb Ft, But its no surprise we have known this info for years about AUdis "Real" power output. But all in all thats not a bad thing for the consumer, Quite the opposite, But as far as fairness in tests go, That might as well be cheating.....Unless its up against a Bmw or Mercedes lol

User avatar

S6 driver  9y ago

Sorry - my mistake 12.2 @ 114 mph.

http://www.motorweek.org/reviews/road_tests/2013_audi_s6

They key factor is that this motor's official power rating is understated by about 15%, meaning actual output is more like 485 hp. That higher number jibes nicely with the car's measured performance as well.

User avatar

S6 driver  9y ago

Motorweek test results were 12.2 @ 116 mph in the 1/4 mile, and I know a couple of owners have run 12.2-12.3 @ 113-116 mph, so C&D's results seem about correct.

I think Car and Driver overestimated the performance, and of course the car that did 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.1@115 had its weight down to 4255 lb (Audi claims 4398 lb for the U.S. model), and it was also tested with 100ish octane in Germany. Stock, I think about 4.1 to 60 and 12.8 to the 1/4 at 109-111ish mph sound more believable.

User avatar

uptownfunker  9y ago

Yea, I did, and then you accidentally (I think) approved the time. That was a substitute for 0-130 kph. Also, the Ferrari F50's 0-180 kph time is listed like Car and Driver's 0-110 mph. Lmao

User avatar

FastestLaps  9y ago

You did!

User avatar

uptownfunker  9y ago

You already added the Mercury Marauder's 0-80 mph time as 0-130 kph. ;)

User avatar

FastestLaps  9y ago

Do not post 0-30 mph times as 0-50 kph times.

Only substitutes allowed are:

0-100 mph for 0-160 kph
0-50 mph for 0-80 kph

User avatar

uptownfunker  9y ago

Btw, 0-50 kph = 0-31 mph, but C/D lists it as 0-30 mph :)

User avatar

Hans  9y ago

0-50 kph: 1.2 s

More than half a secound faster than 750ps Saleen S7 :D

User avatar

uptownfunker  9y ago

2013 US model results to add/edit
0-50 kph: 1.2 s
Curb weight: 4255 lb

Combination of reasons...
All wheel drive is an obvious one.

Advanced twin turbo engine so huge amount of low down torque. The key isn't peak power (whilst important) but the fact the new generation of turbo cars can maintain huge average torque. For example, a 420ps N/A car will be slower like for like than a 420ps turbo car.

finally, these DSG gearboxes have launch control, 7 speeds and virtually (for all intensive purposes) no gearshift delay. Even a good driver would be slow changing from 2nd to 3rd gross gate so figure about 0.3-0.5 seconds lost on that alone.

So not really one thing but lots of little things all added together.

Hans  13y ago

That S6 is very fast for a 420 PS.
here compare to the M5.

@Eryk03

I add more performance figures for the Audi S6.

@Eryk03

I add more performance figures for the Audi S6. Dedes source is correct.

Sure Audi S6 can get better result in 0-100 kph, etc. Now we have to wait test by Autobild, Autozeitung and Sportauto.

Audi S7 in AMS test was slower than Audi S6.

The key is to drive quattro and a modern engine ;)

User avatar

Mental  13y ago

Can't understand, how these new Audis are so fast :D

Ten years ago 4.0 to 100 was quite fast for a Supercar, but now a sedan, which has less power, but more kgs, do the same! With such technical revolutions, in 2022 will be the A1, which would accelerate to 100 in under 3.5!

2012 S6 looks quite simple for such performance, so if I wasn't an autofan, I'd consider it's a slow businesscar!

A, I'm beginning to understand, why S6 is faster to 100 kph than RS5 - cause S6 and S7 have more torque at low rpm! Still unbelievable! :D

User avatar

Eryk03  13y ago

RS5 has different engine, it makes no sense to compare them.
4 sec to 100 km/h is very likely if S6 60 mph did in 3.7 sec. and if 50 kg heavier S7 did 100 kph 4.1 sec.
Make sense?

User avatar

Mental  13y ago

Hmmm... I guess that 0-100 in 4.0 sounds too optimistic, even it's Audi :D

Seriously this S6 weights >1.8 tons, have 420 PS and not the best aerodynamical body to accelerate so fast! If RS5 do it in 4.2 s with 30 PS more, 134 kg less and more aerodynamical body with the same S-tronic gearbox!

User avatar

Eryk03  13y ago

I think 0-100 in 4 sec. and 0-200 in 14.8 sec. should be feasible.

User avatar

Julle85  13y ago

Yes, lets wait test for the Autobild and Autozeitung. I am sure of that, the S6 can hits 0-100 km/h 4 seconds, and 0-200 km/h under at least 15 seconds.

User avatar

Eryk03  13y ago

AMS always doing weak times... I'm looking forward to test Autozeitung possibly Autobild.

User avatar

DeDe  13y ago

From German AMS:
0-100 km/h: 4,4 s
0-160 km/h: 10,0 s
0-200 km/h: 15,7 s

User avatar

Julle85  13y ago

Damn! When comes supertest for the Audi S6, by Autozeitung, AMS, Sportauto or Autobild. I hate to wait!

User avatar

muse  13y ago

@BR2 RS4 will not be so quick because it is naturally aspirated 4.2 V8 engine. But the RS6 probably surprise us, since less than 100 hp S6 is so fast.

User avatar

BR2  13y ago

Question is though, if this S6 does those times, Just What will the RS4 do? 0-60Mph 3.5? 0-100 8.6? 1/4 11.7@120? and thats not even the RS6 :O

...I really hate waiting-_-
