Leaving this here for the guy asking why you need a 550hp wagon. It's fun chasing down porches on the track.

the wagon doesn't sell well in America simply because well its a wagon people want a fast car that looks like a fast car not like they are late for a soccer game. I personally love the wagon and own a coupe because the coupe has more elegance.

User avatar

geert  11y ago

well, i think i'm one of the only persons who drive a ctsv sportwagon in europe, i have a gasinstallation in the car, so it cost me 10 euro to drive 100 km with this car,and then i drive very fast,if my wife is with me, i drive like a good houseman, but, ifi'm alone, the devil comes out ,300km/ hr is not really a problem for this car, i think that i go chiptune my car to 700 hp,i put higher wheels on it,so i will beat the latest 911 turbo, i like a topspeed over 330 km/hr,i will acceleration something like 0-60 mph in3.2 sec

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ hamcee: So I guess the Smart ForTwo is a big seller, there, as well as Toyota Prius and Volkswagen Polo, or Lupo.

User avatar

Hamcee  12y ago

yeah.

car purchases in germany usually dont happen because of the the purchase price, but because of the consumption and maintence cost.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Warl Wurst: I can't imagine paying $9.00 a gallon for gas, I drive a pick-up truck that gets 20 MPG on the highway and I drive over 350 miles a week, I buy a lot of gas. America's roads are crawling with Cadillacs, my cousin used to have a 2004 CTS.

User avatar

Karl Wurst  12y ago

@Shaggy: You, Americans, are lucky only rund 1 $ pay für liter. I'm tired of all that Benzinpreise increase that messes in Europa all the time. Wir have to manufacture und buy economical Autos, I hate this tendency, I'm all in driving something hardcore and loud. Unfortunately, people have less and every year less opportunities supercars and loud muscles enjoy. If not Autoclubs, there simply would be no enthusiasts.

And I also have never see any Cadillac, only Volkswagens, Audi and Benz.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Hamcee: $9.00 a gallon?!, and we Americans complain about paying $4.00 a gallon! 8O

User avatar

Hamcee  12y ago

wagons are going crazy in germany, especially audis.

i do see s6 and rs6 on a daily basis, but i have never seen a cadillac in my entire life (and i mean any kind of cadillac)

germans are really obsessed with their cars.
but we dont have such a strong carcult in germany as in the US.

people rather get something comfortable with low consumption rather than something fast.

no wonder if u have to pay 9$ per gallon.

tho the cts is probably as comfortable as any audi

User avatar

Flabernat  12y ago

Hey Mental
I'd say the big selling point on the Caddy is the way it drives/handles better than Audi's,Benz, BMW's...etc
MotorTrend did a great head to head comparison of this and an equivalent AMG.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWtjjg40mVo
Also, From what I understand Gm sold a LOT more of these than they were expecting.

User avatar

Mental  12y ago

I would guess absolutely opposite. This car is not for Europe. The German competition defeats the CTS-V Wagon, and costs not much more (correct me if I'm wrong). So I guess an average European customer would rather take a BMW/Benz/Audi over a Caddy, if he's looking for a mighty estate car.

But I really wonder why the Caddy Wagon is poorly sold in the America! Looks like an especial car for an average American! It's powerful, very practical and enough affordable! Oppositely to FL, I think CTS-V has to be an appreciated Wagon - for a typical big American family, where the father loves muscles. Maybe my point of view is still from 80-ties?..

Talking about my country, American premium brands are extremely unpopular. I don't remember I've ever seen a Caddy CTS! Honestly!

User avatar

Georg  12y ago

your prices are incorrect...
the CTS wagon starts in Germany at 51,410Euro ($67,870) (CTS Elegance 3.0 V6 RWD AT) and top at 84,750Euro($111,869) for the CTS-V Wagon... your numbers are without tax, you can´t buy cars without paying tax here..

User avatar

BR2'  12y ago

Yes, they are sold int Europe, Here in the UK, a fully built CTS will run you £42,690, a fully built CTS-V will run you £69,880, in Germany the V goes for €71,069, theres still the 2012 Models on the Caddy website, so i would figure they still sell them here.

I never cared for estate cars, or wagons, but if i were gonna go for one, the CST-V is the best on the market for me, unless you really need one, i dont thnk anyone can truly appriciate one, i mean really, who the hell need 556Bhp in a Family wagon desogned for who know what?..

User avatar

Apathy  12y ago

I hope the price of this car drops like a stone...

Just so I can pick one up cheap in a few years. Ha

User avatar

I guess Americans will never really appreciate wagons. In Europe this would sell well.

P.S. Was it sold in Europe?

GM ceased the production of the CTS Wagon due to low sale numbers.

I'm not much of a wagon fan but I have to admit this one is quite handsome.

@luque

You are a very smug and arrogant individual. This can be seen in almost every argument you have had on this website. You think you are better than everyone else and you wont hesitate to put down a entire culture of people.

I may talk badly about a certain brand of cars but I would never say anything negative about a entire country or culture. Thats the difference you fail to see. You come across as a jackass that hates Americans. Maybe if next time you say you hate GM... or Ford rather than mentioning America you wont come across so smug.

If I have a problem with Ferrari I dont bash all of Italy. My favorite car (zonda) is made in Italy.

User avatar

monkeypop  14y ago

Luque... you are hopeless.

Its obvious that rather than to admit you are wrong you go onto another babbling fest filled with technical jargon not relevant to the issue.

If I had several hours I could sit here and pick apart each of your numberous babbles trying to justify why Ferrari created the active handling system which was patented by Delphi but whats the use. You wont ever admit its a delphi design. You seem to think that because a delphi system is plugged into a ferrari and recieving information from ferrari systems that means that the delphi system is now made by ferrari. So I suppose the viper alarm in my truck is made by Nissan since its recieving information from a Nissan BCM... yeah right.

Bottom line... Delphi Magneride isnt a set of shocks it is a total package of shocks, ecu and software designed by delphi. Of course it is different for each application as each car has different parameters... you misinterpet that as meaning that the ferrari designed the software. Well... they did not.. delphi designed the active handling software. F1trac is a seperate system of ferrari design.. just because F1trac sends inputs to delphis system that does not mean ferrari designed the software in delphis system.

Grow up and give credit where credit is due. Without delphi which is a GM company, Ferrari would not have its current active handling system and you know it. Thus my original comment was correct.

You are a very smug and arrogant individual. This can be

Too lazy to read everything before work, but man does that CTS-V wagon look good. I'd say t's the best looking estate on the market.

What I find most pathetic about this is that man1 and luque belittled, insulted me and pretended to have superior knowledge. Yet when proven completely wrong with facts neither of them come back to the thread to admit their mistake and apologize. I would at least have the decency to admit when I was wrong and apologize.
Luque posted a quote from the exact same Delphi 458 article that says that delphi designed the ECU software so I know he read the information. Rather than to come back and admit his mistake he took one quote from the article that made himself sound correct and posted it in a attempt to make himself look superior to me.
The basis of their lustful disrespect in this thread is obvioulsy based on hate for the American auto industry. Anti-American comments popped up several times.. starting with Luques very first sentance in this thread. .

That’s the most amazing post ever.
Monkeypop you are very sick. I feel sorry for you. Visit a clinical psychologist, he could help you.
When I used delphi website I cited the source.

This partnership raises the bar on vehicle suspension technology and resulted in creating a MagneRide vehicle unlike any other"

Hot does it sound with your first sentence ?

Ferrari borrowed active damping from GM

Post scriptum : SCM is A SEMI-ACTIVE continuos damping system

User avatar

Luque  14y ago

To do the easiest and simple example during a left-right turns sequence. On the (first) left turn system stiff dampers to hold car body in equilibrium position during bend when suddenly driver need to change direction to turn right. Body roll to opposite position is slowed down by stiffness of the dampers. Ferrari system, trough different sensors, recognizes the maneuver matching sensors data with its stored vehicle dynamic model and give input to damper ECU to soft (for the exact time needed) damping force to improve body roll velocity and stiff again to hold the car body in new equilibrium position bending to the right.
This control algorithm is totally by Ferrari and all sensors / accelerometers used are from the most innovative ESP system ever create.
The 458 had sofware improved in MY 2011
During the 458-MP4 comparison I read any kind of comments. ‘’Heavily modified 458, with extended use of challenge parts’’ ‘’Bigger brakes, higher rpm and sticky tires’’ talking about Ferrari press car.
No one noticed that, about EVO track test in Bedford, Roger green talks of the 458 lightning direction change that Mc laren couldn't match, . The 458 was the most agile of the lot due to its instability.
Here my post on ferrari chat on june 2011.

Ferrari developed a new concept of using a semi-active damping system using the faster system available on the market, starting from to 599 and arriving to 458 and 599 GTO (last both using SCM2 where damping stiffness change is quicker by fourth times in comparison to first generation SCM).
Ferrari generate unstable handling to improve agility and to do to so all systems (stability control, electronic differential (not in the 599), electronically adjustable dampers, ABS and the engine and transmission controls) are all handled by the same master electronic control unit which speeds responses and allows more tailored intervention.
It has a similar concept to what is have done with Eurofighter jet (Typhoon) that is aerodynamically unstable to provide extremely high level of agility, and could only be flown trough a a computerized > fly-by-wire

system. using Flight control software

Luque  14y ago

That is what this whole argument has been about. Luque seems to believe that Delphi just supplied their patent shocks.. and ferrari designed the operating software which is false. In fact both the shocks and the magneride software system are designed and trademarked by delphi.

Monkey, you are clearly in difficulty. That’s what I wrote to explain my previous post :

The F1 Trac ECU software is receiving informations from sensor/accelerometers giving input to delphi SCM ECU trought its software. In a Magneride normal system Delphi ECU receive signal from sensors and elaborate the input to shocks.

Every semi-active system have four shocks and a controller ECU. My company sells a semi-active damping system with four patented electronic dampers and a controller ECU. ZF-Sachs has a similar system equipping the 430 scuderia called CDC.
The way to change damping stiffness is patented, not the software (that is an algorithm different for every customer) least of all the ECU as you wrote.
An ECU is hardware (circuit board containing CPU+ EPROM) + software stored in the eprom. So ECU Engine control, ECU ABS, ECU Esp are all patented ?
Paste and copy better from Delphi website next time.

User avatar

Luque  14y ago

You made the first arrogant and rude comment so I responded in kind. Dont get upset when you make a jackass comment and someone replies back.

Writing ‘’US national anthem is still on’’ or ‘’you ignore Ferrari world’’ is a rude and arrogant comment ?
I let all people judge this point.
And you call me anti-American ?
Here some few examples of your very balanced point of view about Ferrari world
http://www.fastestlaps.com/tests/8kgb2tn7c1l6

Ferrari probably didn’t have one of its tuned cars and or crew available to go to the show. If they already had their tuned cars and crew working some place else three weeks isn’t much notice to move a car(s) and staff or cancel some other obligation.
In no way do their actions show anything other than them trying to hide something.

Congratulations.
How may we call you ?
No other comments are needed.

I have modified my own personal 4G63 Evo motor, exensively modified my Transam WS6 by tearing down the engine, stroking it, replacing the internals and heavily modified a VQ30DE nissan engine which is very difficult due to limited aftermarket parts which require you to retrofit parts from different nissan engines that require a custom piggyback ecu and yet these armchair internet "experts" who have probably never done anyting other than bolt on modifications dont have the decency to apologize or recogonize when they are wrong about such a trivial subject. I find that to be quite pathetic and unbecoming of any real man.

Example...If a car maker buys a patented alarm system from a company and that alarm system needs to be plugged into the cars BCM (body control module) to recieve inputs from the doors and windows does that mean that the car maker designed the alarm system? Hell no.

That is what this whole argument has been about. Luque seems to believe that Delphi just supplied their patent shocks.. and ferrari designed the operating software which is false. In fact both the shocks and the magneride software system are designed and trademarked by delphi.

Luque wants to imagine that Ferrari played a larger role in the active handling than it actually did. He wants to give Ferrari credit for system that Delphi has patented.
