370z is 13.7 stock

13.8 is pretty impressive for a 5,000 plus pound truck. Especially when you consider how hard it is to hook up off the line in vehicle with no weight in the rear.

The 2004 Dodge Ram SRT/10 was not the first pick-up truck to come with a V10 engine, a 300 horsepower 8.0 liter V10 engine was first offered in 1994 in the Dodge Ram 1500 ST10, 2500, and 3500 heavy duty pick-ups for their excellent torque that was good for towing and hauling.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Hector: Have you driven a Ram STR/10?

User avatar

Hector  12y ago

Well, considering a stock 370Z is at 13.1 s & the Viper truck is at 13.8 it seemed slow - it just didn't feel like 500 hp in it was the same as the 370Z's mid 300's. However, I'm sure its good for sport truck drivers.

User avatar

Hector  12y ago

Mid '00's Viper Truck - It didn't feel like it had 500 hp and the throttle response seemed slow. The Viper truck has a big delay between pedal to throttle response and the transmission felt as if it was worn. A-lot of gear shifter vibration, I could see it moving and vibrating. I didn't like it & the interior has no luxuries.

@ monkeypop: I agree, some times old school technology works better, since Chrysler owns Jeep, they ought to use Jeep's 4X4 system in Ram trucks, they would be the kings of 4X4 pick-ups, full time 4 wheel drive would reduce wheel spin, a common problem in trucks. What they ought to do is offer a Ram SRT/10 4X2 as a sport/muscle truck, an all wheel drive SRT/10 version, and an SRT/10 4X4 as a hard core off-roader, roll bar in the bed with fog lights mounted on top, 18" wheels wrapped in beefy all terrain tires, Jeep style locking differentials, a snorkel, and about 18"-24" ground clearance, that would make a Bowler Wildcat spring an embarrassing leak, not to mention a Local Motors Rally Fighter and Ford F150 SVT Raptor. The SRT/10 4X2s and AWDs would outrun a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. :)

@Shaggy

I suppose AWD would be ideal for street driving but if the drivetrain is already there for 4 wheels they could do a differential like jeep uses that offers full time AWD and part time 4X4 with diff lock.

True mechanical differential lock is king when it comes to 4X4's. Only down side is you cannot use it on dry, hard surfaces because all four wheels are locked.

This past winter on Christmas day we had 12 inches of snow over a half inch of ice which is very unusual for this far south. I was out in my jeep picking up families and taking them to motels because all the local tow trucks and police where stuck. I did that non-stop for 13 hours and never once came close to getting stuck or losing control. So called 4X4's with electronic diffs and traction control were all stuck. Nothing beats having all 4 wheels locked in and turning all the time.

Honestly if I had one of these, I'd use it off road. Thats a perfect engine for low speed off roading with lots of low end torque. I've never been one to shy away from using a automobile as its intended regardless of price. The day I brought my evo home from the dealer I gathered a group of friends and we went wild down logging roads and through creeks. No sense in buying a car and not using it for what its intended!

I'm excited about the arrival of the Ram SRT/8 coming later this year as a 2014. If they bring back Ram SRT/10, they should offer it in rear or all wheel drive, on demand 4 wheel drive isn't really necessary for something never meant to go off road, it would, however come in handy in the rain or snow.
@ monkeypop: You do have a point, the only problem with a high performance pick-up truck is its poor, uneven weight distribution.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ monkeypop: I don't know of any wealthy people in my area, except maybe doctors or lawyers, but I see a few high end cars around, mainly in Dublin, the largest of the 5 cities surrounding Cedar Grove, it's 20 miles north. I mostly see vehicles from Cadillac, Lexus, Acura, Infinity, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Volvo, Corvettes, and the occasional Porsche, but not much else.

User avatar

monkeypop  12y ago

If they brought it back they should make it a 4x4 if for nothing more than the added launch. Hard to get traction with that much power because the rear wheels have so little weight over them.

User avatar

monkeypop  12y ago

@shaggy

Not many wealthy people here either unless they got rich selling their farms to the government. But the small city north of here is full of wealth, lots of vipers and such driving around that area.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Mental: I had the same idea, but keep it under the Ram division, or put the Ram back under the Dodge division, Ram is its own stand-alone division, now.

User avatar

Mental  12y ago

I would love to see this truck brought back under SRT brand and Viper's V10 under the hood. That would be just furious!

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ monkeypop: I live in a relatively low income area, the most extravagant many pick-up truck buyers get around Dublin Georgia is when they finally buy the duallie they always wanted. My neck of the woods is crawling with pick-ups, in the rural community I live in, every household has at least one. BTW, your friend and his brother have good taste. The biggest farming industries in central Georgia are cattle, cotton, and Vidalia Onions, this is the only region in the world where Vidalia Onions are grown.

User avatar

monkeypop  12y ago

A friend of mine had a red viper and his brother had a red Ram SRT-10. Their family was pretty wealthy from a soy bean farm...

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ monkeypop: Me too, half the vehicles at my local Chrysler dealership are new Rams. When the Ram SRT/10 first came out, it was the biggest thing to happen to the pick-up truck industry since the extended cab, it came up in almost all conversations about trucks.

User avatar

monkeypop  12y ago

@Shaggy

I live in a area dominated by pickups so these were a big deal when they first came out. Just about every big dealership had to have one to draw people in.

These and ford lightnings are not that uncommon here.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ monkeypop: A hand full?, I've only ever seen one.

User avatar

monkeypop  12y ago

Jake are you sure they are all real deal SRT-10's and not just clones? Lots of people buy the hoods and wings to make a regular ram look like a SRT.

I've seen a lot of look alikes but just a hand full of real deal V-10's

@Shaggy
They are some wicked trucks but they really get let down by the crummy steering.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ jake711mopar: 5?!, holy crap, what town do you live in?!, I've only ever seen one, and that was in a dealership showroom 8 years ago. I agree with you, the Dodge Ram SRT/10 is my dream truck, in my opinion, the most awesome pick-up ever built. Only Dodge had designers twisted enough to put the engine of their flagship sports car under the hood of a pick-up truck. ;)

User avatar

jake711mopar  12y ago

Isn't this truck susposed to be rare I've seen 5 in my home town alone, Still this is a fantastic truck.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ raul: Yeah, 0-60 is .3 seconds quicker, 1/4 mile is 1.1 seconds quicker at 6 more MPH, and top speed is 6 MPH faster. One is in every way faster, quicker, and more agile, the other is more practical and easier to drive. The 2006 Dodge Ram SRT/10 Regular Cab is my dream truck.

User avatar

raul  12y ago

correct me if i am wrong but the regular cab with then manual is far faster than the auto quad cab version

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

Ram is putting out a new model in 2013 as a 2014, the Ram 1500 SRT/8 will have the 470 horsepower 6.4 liter Hemi V8 found in all of Chrysler's SRT/8 models.

User avatar

Shaggy  13y ago

The Ford F150 never has and never will be better than or even close to being as good as the Dodge Ram, when it comes to build quality, no truck can touch a Dodge.

User avatar

Anonymous  15y ago

lol the F150 and this are totally different, this is a Performance truck, the Ford isnt.

User avatar

BS  15y ago

in what way is the f-150 better??
