there is no way this car does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds; please delete the data (if you needed more convincing its super8 data)

Delete those results please

425hp and 11.7 secs is a joke. The 13.6-1 sideoiler gave around 600hps in 64 and the Thunderbolt is good for low 9`s on modern dragslicks

hum the 427 have a more Horsepower but did not official for insurance in the dyno she take a 520 hp at 6400 rpm.

May be a dumb question but I don't pretend to know anything about racing or race cars - I want to know whether this thing had power steering or not, or was it optional? I'm finding out all over the web that it had no passenger wiper or rear window cranks, but what about the power steering, power brakes??

This thing definitely isn't doing 11.8 at 123. 12.9 at 114 sounds more understandable. On a good day however I'd say it'd do about 13.5 at 108-109. 😄

Correction, the engine's displacement is 427 cubic inches, not 425.

this car kicks ass.

@ Super8: Oh yeah, I know the 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt, It was Ford's factory drag car for the street, it's powerful, quick, and brutal.

User avatar

Super8  12y ago

@ Silly S and Ford Forever: That time came from automatic transmission. If you have manual transmission time, let me know.

User avatar

Ford Forever.  12y ago

the fastest lap on for an authentic thunder bolt is low 9 seconds at 151mph.
Silly S is right

people love this car because it is a monster, i used to race one and I can tell you this.....i can get a 10 second run out of that old ford...whats this bullshit about 11 seconds? and those stats aren't always right..we'd switch batteries and acid dip, and do all sorts of things. everybody did. that ford can go faster

Super8 is right , According to the 1964 Car Life road test : T-Bolt with Lincoln 3-speed Automatic and 4.58 final ratio , 1/4 mile : 12.91 @ 113.92 mph and top speed 115-116 mph . The other one T-Bolt with Borg-Warner T-10 4 speed and 4.44 gear ratio , 1/4 mile 11.76 @ 122.7 mph and top speed was 123-124 mph .

User avatar

Super8  13y ago

@ S: With long ratio gearbox it can but this car only available with close ratio gearbox (4.44 final ratio)

User avatar

S  13y ago

According to the stats, this car should be able to go faster than 124mph.

User avatar

Super8  13y ago

I adding wrong top speed to this car. I found old magazine and it said that this car had 124 mph not 116 mph

User avatar

S  13y ago

Why does anyone like this car?

User avatar

Bijan  13y ago

To Compete in super stock drag racing against lighter rivals , Ford squeezed its full competition 427 into the mid-sized car and created the Thunderbolt . with 12.7 compression ratio and over 500 hp and many competition modifications with Lincoln Automatic with 4.58 and T-10 4-speed with 4.44 gearing . the result : 11.76 @ 122.7 mph , ( Hot Rod mag test ) , this car was the full drag racer not the everyday car or even the Muscle car , such as 1964 Dodge 426 Hemi lightweight , 1963 Chevy impala PROZ-11 , 1963 Pontiac SD-421 and so , then never compared this with The Corvette Sports car .

@Super8 ahh, I remember the light weight drag cars. The NHRA forced Ford to make these beasts available to the public, in order to allow them to be eligible for drag racing competition in their class.

If you think Corvette ZL1 and Camaro ZL1 is the fastest drag car, then you're wrong. This car even brutal than them. Those 27 FE with 425 Hp and 480 ft-lbs is just started. This car will has 500 Hp+ gross and 510 ft-lbs gross if you put the compression to 12 : 1. I can reach 11.56 for 1/4 mile
