1620 kg curb weight including downforce, so for Komfort models it's 170 kg of downforce while for Sport models it's likely around 270 kg of downforce. In reality, they weigh around the same at higher speeds (say, post-200km/h). The car makes "official" peak power at 6500 rpm, but it really does continue to make more power toward 7500 rpm (its likely fuel cut-off, or 500 rpm above the supposed "redline"). But shifting points remain at 7000 rpm where it makes 484 mhp. The 959 makes 518-519 mhp at top speed.

Note that the test consists of both rounds: the first simulation excludes the "gelände" (terrain) gear ratio, while the other includes it.

The Porsche 959 was a technologically advanced Supercar. The competition got left behind. Group B refugee production road car. Built to strict standards and rules and regulations. And I believe although I'm unsure, everything was new and bespoke including the engine. No carry over engines here. ;)

now that the silent microwave tech is taking over, this actually is starting to look better and better, who would've thought ? :)

aaaah the 918 cokcster of the 80's with a regular vw-911 platform aka a lowered cayenne with a stick shift back then lol

important facts:

overrated
overweight
overpriced
overhyped
almost forgotten in history and failed to beat a 2wd rival without traction or stability

"The 959 is a civilised two-plus-two with amazing driving performance," Berger and Brun agreed. "The F40 is a racing car for the road."

the difference between a vw family car and a racing car with plates :)

then they switched to 2wd and called it a gt2 bs and still failed lol

gets roasted by nissan lolololol

I so love the 959. Mind-blowing performance, its relative rarity plus its historical iconic significance makes the 959 a wicked, irresistible combination of a car.

User avatar

Dario  14y ago

Test in Fiorano was clocked by Ferrari, in a comparison test. So this can explain why Porsche was so slow... I do not think this lap time can be considered good.

User avatar

Lance  15y ago

How much would the time drop for the f40 and 959 if they were on modern tires?

User avatar

Anonymous  16y ago

Technology has improved but emissions standards, crash standards, etc. have also gone up. People also want more luxury in their sportscars which also adds weight.

It's always hard to compare modern cars to older ones.

User avatar

How stupid are you? the Turbo will WASTE this in a straightline and around a track, 0-100kmh or mph is not similar, and the Turbo is very much a supercar. and the SLR is nowhere near a power flop.

User avatar

Anonymous  16y ago

Its funny how the 2010 turbo has alot more horsepower than the 959 and yet 0-100 is about same, i would say the evolution of the turbo in the Porsche is a little slow. After 14 years you would think they could have harnessed the power to acheive a supercar status based on the 959 considering the Mclaren SLR was a power flop also, considering the price. Thumbs up to the Nissan GTR for causing a stir and how young this car is and imagine how this car will be in 5 years, shame on Porsche for being behind.

RUF is a independent car producer by internatinal law since over 30years. They produce cars and they tune cars, the CTR is their own product with own manufactor number.
The CTR3 has a own production plant in saudi arabia...
Fox learn facts befor making comments...
RUF recive from Porsche chassies without any producer numbers, the RUF production engines only share the layout with Porsche flat 6, they use different cyl heads valves pistons etc etc.

User avatar

Fox  16y ago

RUF is the biggest company to make Porsche tune-ups

User avatar

BumRush  16y ago

Fox...Ruf is not a tuning company, its a manufactur, so no, the CTR is not a tuned supercar.

User avatar

Georg  16y ago

@ fox and both the 959 and F40 were owned hard at a Nardo high speed test by the RUF CTR... the CTR blows the doors out of both others, quicker accelerating faster topspeed and cheaper to buy.. and thanks to the small standart 911 chassie easy to use as daily driver

User avatar

BumRush  16y ago

Yeah but which one would you take? F40 for me Baby XD

Porsche 959 too heavy

And it was competitor to Ferrari 288 GTO, because 288 GTO was done for Group B, Ferrari F40 was evolution of this car.

Sorry for my english...

On this track they had used the 959 comfort insted of the sport. 3.6 vs 4.0+ in 0-60

this Porsche was in the 80's what Mc Laren F1 represented for the 90's

Hello!
I'm an italian sportscars fun, so i can find many Fiorano laptimes in Italian magazine.
Yor list is wrong for some models.
Ferrari 456, for example, is not able to lap in 1.35, just too fast for that model.
Correct time is 1:40.
Ferrari 512 TR is wrong too.
It's a very heavy model, unable to compare with F 355.
Its correct time in italian magazines is 1.37.
Ferrari Testarossa (1984) is not in your list.
Its lap is 1:41.
Ferrari 328 GTB lap in 1.44.

FastestLaps  18y ago

I agree. The 959 is faster than a lot of cars in that Fiorano list. But it's very very hard to find any lap times and track tests for such an old and exotic car. But you can try.

User avatar

A156  18y ago

According to its technical data and the sophisticated 4wd it should have been faster than 288 gto at any track. I think that it is faster than a 993 turbo. I do not belive that 1.37 in Fiorano was a "flat out" lap! Can we find other lap times?

FastestLaps  19y ago

Funnyest thing is a fact that this car was made to be Group B rally racer. And 959 off-road modification participated in Dakar Rally. As a roadcar it was competitor to Ferrari F40. 959 was a uubercar at it's time. Very sophisticated and quick accelerating.
