I'm honestly wondering why people don't see the Mk5 as a "real" Supra when the old one has only been genuinely impressive with huge tunes that wouldn't last very long without maintenance.

I have AMS magazine with 330 PS Supra's test and it is much slower than Car and Driver test from USA.
In USA, it gets to 60 in 4.6s, which could be 4.8- 5.0s to 100km'h. And 1/4 mile in 13.1 at 109mph. Very impressive.
In german test. it is 60kg heavier, needs 5.9s to get to 100km'h and from 100-200km/h is slower than 286PS M3 E36 3.0

Hmm, the American spec car looks a bit different.

I think we should merge the German spec (this page) and UK spec pages in one, or, in other words, delete the UK spec page.

Then we would have RZ supra ala Japanese with 280 hp gentleman's agreement trim, and the Euro/US supra with 320 hp (330 metric hp).

Whatever small differences there are between German, UK and US specs, we should be better of ignoring.

i think i just found reason for weight diferences betwen supras

User avatar

nismoGTR  15y ago

maybe there was an acident in the factory, and some of small japanese people got traped somehow in some of those supras... and nobody didnt noticed they are in those cars, so they sold cars with them

Actually you can drive without fuel and a driver, but thats beyond the point. different sources say different things about the weight, some say as low as 3348lbs, some say as high as 3782lbs, weights there, its not blank, just keep it.

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

Yeah but a full tank on these things is like 80 kilos, you don't need that much to drive, you might as well add the driver because the car won't drive itself.

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

we use here mostly cerb weight drive ready car with filled up tank..that way all US car magazine and most europen car magazine weight the cars...without fuel you cant drive

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

What about fuel? maybe the tank was full when it was weighed.

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

No is was a UK spec tested, but why is their such a variance in the different weights. They did remember to get out of the car when it was being weighed didn't they? lol. Lightness was supposed to be a priority with this car which was why they only had a single exhaust. Are the 3000 gt and 300zx figures correct?, the 3000 gt had 4 wheel steering and 4WD it should be much heavier

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

so to end that confusing ..
The Supra was more heavy and the weight by auto motor und sport is correct... most likely Evo simple posted manufactor claimed numbers..

Motortrend 3505lbs = 1590kg
C&D 3480lbs = 1579kg
Road&Track 3550lbs = 1610kg
(claimed)
ams 3615lbs = 1640kg
(auto motor und sport)
Road&Track 3700lbs = 1678kg (tested)
sportauto 3758lbs = 1705kg

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

Evo tested a German spec Supra?

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

Evo tested 1528kg, it all very confusing.

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

Yaspaa that are real tested numbers not manufactor weight claims...
Evo cars once weight a TVR Cerbera 4.5l lightweight which is claimed by 1100kg and they weight it without any extras at nearly 1290kg...

The Supra (6 speed manual) was weight and tested in >1993< by auto motor und sport at 1640kg,

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

The american one is quicker too.
http://www.supercars.net/cars/1816.html
wiki has max weight at 1550
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Supra
These have 0-62 at 5.3 ( prob auto)
http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/specs.htm

User avatar

Yaspaa  15y ago

Somethings wrong here, it has to get to 62 quicker than this, its lighter and more powerful than the 300 zx and 3000 gt yet gets a similar 0-62. I'm sure this car weighs 100kg less than this as well, it does in the UK.

The Tsukuba time should be added to the SUpra RZ and deleted from this one.

User avatar

Georg  18y ago

just to think about.. a Porsche Carrera GT is faster in Hockenheim as the DTM race cars of the 1990-1991 during qualification laps... and the DTM drove on slicks the Carrra GT on normal road tires (no S tires!)

that is evolution..look at F1..with all the regulation setback to slow the cars down the F1 gets faster and faster every year.

User avatar

Heyhuub  18y ago

It's a 15 year old car, how fast would you think it would go?

Any car from the early nineties would be slow compared to modern cars.

User avatar

Georg  18y ago

maestro the time was driven way back in the 90´s as the Supra was new.
A Porsche 930 911 Turbo is even slower as most hatchbacks of today.. thats evolution..
mainly in tire and brake technic..
Next to that fact the Supra sold in Germany was a fat ass heavy car with over 1650kg.

User avatar

maestro  18y ago

what the hell!! 1:24 on hockenheim?? man I guess they really don't know how to drive supra. lol...

User avatar

JiSiN  18y ago

Japanese spec's:
280PS/5600rpm
431NM/3600rpm
1510KG

User avatar

Naota  18y ago

1/4 Mile: 13.1 sec.

User avatar

Georg  19y ago

remember that was an early 1990 tire technology...and the German version was extrem heavy for what ever reason? I bet with modern tires the car is easy able to go under 1:20min.
Porsche 928 or BMW 850i of that time were comparable slow by todays standart at race tracks.

User avatar

FastestLaps  19y ago

Uuuu at Hockenheim slower than Miata :D Thats shameful!
