yeah the S2000 wouldnt't be much slower on the track, but in everyday driving 3-4k revs between shifts, the car will be unimpressive. Nonetheless, I like both cars

Its more about who like what more.
As i wrote - Boxter is more all-rounder with more torquy enigine that make it better road - roadster.
S2000, is dominated by revs - if someone like that kind of driving - its pretty good. You will not be slowe on track in S2000.
So its more about character.

The Porsche has a lot of character too...
I recall 10 years ago, in many tests of similar price brackets (the porsche of course being more expensive) came up on top just edging the S2000.
I think with a Manual gear box, you would want the more meaty 3.2L V6 so you don't have to keep the gear box revving above 7k all the time. (plus it's more fuel economical)

Both cars at similar price in used cas market.
S2000 is also pretty mid engine car, beceause its behind front ale. Similar to SLS.
The main diffrence here that affect performance is TORQE. Honda did wonderful engine, that makes great sound, is reliable and revs like in supercar, but 3.2 6 cylinder porsche boxer is much more punchy. its 200 vs 300 Nm of torque.
As to estetic sense, i like styling and character of S2000 more.
Still very close.
Porsche great all-rounder and road machine.
Honda - full of character.

That's not called mid-engine. When the engine is at the front of the car but behind the front axle, then it's called a front mid-engine. Cars like the Cayman are mid-engined, and cars like the Audi R8 are rear mid-engined.
