Lol, the mustang has no chance. Weight, weight distribution, acceleration, braking, are all in favor of the F40. And besides, the brakes of the ford will be toast after 3 laps or so.

I believe that with equal tires the Ferrari should win on most tracks. The reason is weight distribution, the Mustang has a lot more weight on the front end, and the mid-engined Ferrari has most of its weight on the drive wheels. A rear weight bias helps corner entry, and corner exit (but it does require better driving skills since one can't lift during max cornering). Simple physics dictates an F40 advantage, but I could be wrong. :)

1400Lbs and shorter gears do have there advantages, I wouldn't be too confident in it though.

If Dodge or whoever don't make a new SuperBird already and a Retro Charger, ill kill all there employess...BRITISH STYLE!!!

Me still thinking F40 would outperform 20years newer Shelby Mustang at the track.

Anyways, in the gallery BR2 has shown, the gold replica, which is staying next to the white Chally, is the best looking. The only is needed to describe: awesome. I wish SRT made a badass version of Challenger and called it "Superbird".

@ BR2+: Buy and keep that body kits in garage and wait until new Challenger SRT-8 Hellcat came out and then put it in there. You will have a replica Daytona/Superbird with around same power as NASCAR version of Daytona and Superbird ;)

Btw, we need more lap times for Mustang and F40. But I'm quite sure new Mustang will be faster than F40 in most tracks. But I can't ensure it until someone test it.

@ Viking: 200 mph top speed came from Dodge test driven by Buddy Baker. With small 4 bbl carbs it hit 199.8 mph. It fitted with 3.23 final when tested but after sold to public, it reported changed to 3.54 final. One of my dad friends has complain letter from one of Dodge customer. It said:
"I am writing to bring to your attention a serious issue I had in one of your product last week. I bought a special version of Dodge Charger Daytona R/T Hemi fitted with supercharger from a dealer in Detroit. The car itself is fine until I found out, it can't be driven under 50 mph. After driven about few hours under 50 mph it's overheating. Did I just bought a converted race cars? etc....".
The date is 17 February 1970.

No way maaan, That is not possible, Super8 cannot possibly like American cars, Havent you herd recntly? We have to be American to like American cars...Super8 can only like Japanese cars.. Therefore I only like British Cars..

Also, That body kit is from HPP, its only 8k Usd, Upgraded..body-_- Supercharger putting out 575Bhp, Brakes, suspension, Only different color matching interior though, but does come with a Hurst gearshift!

@ Viking: I know, Super8 isn't even American and he knows about American muscle cars I've never even heard of, and I'm a muscle car fan. He's a great asset to this site.

@Shaggy same here. Super8 has done a lot more research on obscure muscle cars. Record keeping was really poor in the sixties, and government regulation almost non-existent. I was around, but young in the sixties, so I certainly don't know about all the special orders, and dealer packages, and whatever other obscure one offs/limited production cars. Some of these rare cars still exist, and some are gone to history. It helps that Super8 is hanging out with restoration people and muscle car experts all the time. :)

@ BR2+: (spit-take) What the Heck?????????!!!!!!!! A Dodge Challenger with a special body kit to make it look like a 1969-70 Dodge Charger Daytona/Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird and another to look like the "General Lee" Charger from The Dukes of Hazzard?!?!?!?!?!?! OK, that's enough internet for me for one day!

@ Z: Daytona not counted as the first 200 mph car because it's counted as one off production cars. There's a lot of 200 mph cars in 1960's and 1970's. 1969 Corvette ZL1, 1970 Corvette LT2, 1967 Cobra Super Snake.

@ Viking: Dealer installed Daytona is very exclusive car. Only few Dodge cars that fitted with supercharge. 2 cars that I know is red Daytona and white Superbird. Both has special VIN code (Z) which stand for special engine order code. And I just realize if this two called Hellcat ;). So, it makes sense if new supercharged Dodge engine called Hellcat

To clarify things, NASCAR rules still required that stock cars had stock bodies back in the sixties, and all the "performance parts" had to have factory part numbers (available to customers theoretically). However superchargers and fuel injection (which dominated in 1957 stock car racing) were no longer legal, so the race teams used other tricks for more power. So the NASCAR tuned Charger Daytona, and Plymouth Superbird had normally aspirated engines with a higher rev range than stock. Those engines were a lot more expensive to build up than the simple dealer package of stuffing in a Paxton supercharger. I have seen references to Mustangs and Shelby models getting these superchargers in the sixties, so I am not surprised that Dodge dealers might do the same thing. Thus no reason to doubt Super8's research. :)

@Z I just looked at your link, and yeah maybe that dealer installed supercharger package could hit 200 mph as well. I forgot about the car added by Super8. I don't know how many were actually sold though since it was a dealer installed package, and not made from the factory. So if you only count factory the F40 is still the first 200 mph car, but if dealer installed is counted you are correct that the Charger Daytona "supercharged" was the first. I personally have never seen a test of the supercharged Charger Daytona, and therefore can't confirm its top speed.

@Z Shaggy is completely correct, the 200 plus mph Dodge Charger Daytona was modified and tuned for NASCAR racing. The body was stock, but the engine had about 150 more horsepower than from the showroom. Amazing aerodynamic efficiency for 1969, and really cool looking car anyway. I recently saw one of the race tuned "wing cars" a 1970 Plymouth Superbird when I visited the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada. Groovy fast car! :)

@Z: That's Charger Daytona. And only the version for NASCAR. The Ferrari F40 was the first 200 MPH road car.
