Someone sent me an email to go to this link, and I was like wtf. I suspect the op is just being an idiot; no Mustang tops the 458 in reality. The only Ferrari a GT500 will barely keep up with today is the California T. 😊

@ Viking: Your nephew has a nice car for his age!

Well, I am very familiar with Mustangs (my former 2011 Mustang GT, my dad's 1994 Mustang GT, and perhaps most relevant to this discussion my nephew's 2009 Mustang Shelby GT500), and I would take the Ferrari if I could afford it.

Id take the GT, Its more my type of car, the shape of the 458 is better, and has a nicer interior, but i like the GT500 engine and sound better, and fits to more my lifestyle. but to be honest i dont really care which one id take, i couldnt complain.

@ Mental: I'd pick the Ferrari, definitely.

Wow.. so unexpectable!...

Flabernat, haha, there is also another common thing - V8. :D

Hmm, if I had a chance owning one of these car, by the clear logic, I should take Ferrari... But something insane inside me tells that I should go with Shelby. :D

Why did you remove my comments? My comments don't even have cuss words in it!

All of your simulation times will eventually get deleted. It's just a matter of someone spending the time to delete them.

@Everyone
The Ferrari 458 Italia is like a hot or athletic girl with a beautiful body. (This is a picture of Allison Stokke.)

The Ford/SVT Shelby Mustang GT500 with more than 650 horsepower is like a strong/smart/athletic man with strong muscles like this! (That is a picture of Kobe Bryant.)

Simulations are no substitute for actual test numbers.

User avatar

Viking  12y ago

@Flabernat I completely agree.

User avatar

What an odd comparison.... I think the only thing these cars have in common is RWD, lol
Mustang could probably win a drag race with slicks, but other than that, there's no comparison.

Ford certainly can make powerful engines, and the heavy shifting Tremec transmission is bullet proof. The Ferrari has all the advantages of a dedicated sports car platform however (mid-engine, low center of gravity, good aerodynamics). The Ford is well priced though since you are purchasing a powerful engine, big brakes, strong transmission, etc. that is all placed in a mainstream, compromised, front heavy (already paid for since it is old) platform. It is too bad Ford can't make an inexpensive mid-engine sports car for its great engines (the Ford GT was not inexpensive!!).

@ Classics Dreamin: But the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 ran the 1/2 mile in 18.5 seconds, the Ferrari 458 Italia ran it in 17.1 seconds, the Ferrari has better launch. Still, 159 MPH in 1/2 a mile is good going for a Mustang.

User avatar

Classics Dreamin  12y ago

@Shaggy
The Ferrari 458 Italia only has 378 horsepower per ton, a 570 horsepower V8 N/A engine, and ran half a mile at 155 mph.

The Shelby GT500 (2013 model) has 371 horsepower per ton, has a 662 horsepower V8 supercharged engine, and ran half a mile at 159 mph.
