How ironic, Mustang gets close(ish) on track but gets demolished in drag race...

Been like that for a while in general when comparing American to European cars. While I love the focus on rear-wheel-drive, naturally aspirated and often manual cars it doesn't produce the best drag results.
Also the Mustang weighs more and has in reality a lot less power as the BMW is underrated. And the torque peaks much earlier in the BMW.

I tend to prefer naturally aspirated big engine lightweight cars, but you are correct in that turbo engines frequently have a lower torque peak with a broader powerband nowadays. BMW definitely underrates their turbos.

Be interesting to do a more recent comparison. ;)
I suspect gap has even widened. Unless you select that zillion HP super mistang (GTD was it called?).

Gap has definitely widened as the BMW is now AWD, so in a straight line you'd need a much more powerful GT500.
If we're talking track performance a Dark Horse with Handling Package should be able to deal with everything below the M4 GTS.

Performance cars are based on both, They have all been like that, Both price and performance.
Ps: If you want to get a discussion going fine, Great, Thas why were all here, We like discussing cars, But were not here for an argument, Not on purpose anyway, Theres nothing interesting about it, Thats why theres Trolls, Bring that shite somewhere else.

@v8supercar1 Nobody compares performance cars based on price. They are always compared based on performance. If they were only compared based on price then a GTR or Corvette Z06 would never compare with a 458 or a Huracan. Unless you're in the market to buy one, price doesn't matter on an online comparison.

@BR2+ Oh so now we are gonna get banned for comparing cars and arguing/discussing which one is superior or inferior. I put forth my argument and I suggest you do yours. Its pretty simple. And if you don't like the way I started the thread then don't post at all. Others seem to find this just as interesting as I do.

@lamboboy: If you want to compare a mustang to a BMW m4. Then atleast compare it to one thats somewhat close in price, and thats the GT500.

I just wanted to get an argument going. Success. On a serious note, my money is on the M4 every damn time. This Mustang is even heavier than the last one and has only 20 hp more. While M4 is lighter than M3 Coupe and much more torque. Also the Mustang has what a 6 speed auto against the M4's 7Speed dct? I'm no Mustang hater i think this car beats the M4 hands down in looks department, infact i want to make love to that butt, BUT when the last gen 5.0 Cayote came out and it got close to the M3 e92's track performance, people were losing their minds and everyone was expecting the "next" mustang gt to leave the M3/m4 in the dust. So therefore i find it quite amusing that the mustang gt is still the underdog. I dont see no big improvement. I should wait for the official tests before passing judgement but really common sense says it will have trouble even staying close to the M4, let alone beat it. BTW the E92 M3 coupe was GORGROUS.
