Hmm. Maybe they did something special for europe. It sounds like it could be a mistake though.

I believe the brakes, but I have my doubts about the suspension.

Unfortunately, I don't own a commemorative edition to check the parts number. I could call it in at a GM parts provider, but I'm far too lazy to do that. lol

@Apathy

this Chevrolet Corvette Commemorative Edition Targa was in the sportauto supertest in 9/2003

http://www.einszweidrei.de/chevrolet/corvcommtarga2003-1.htm

here they make the claim that this Corvette was fitted with the Z06 suspension and brakes..

Sie bedient sich des Fahrwerks und der Bremsanlage der Z06-Version.

unfortunatily sportauto has not such old tests online to re read them.. and I don´t have the magazine

Found proof that the FE4 z06 suspension was only available on the Z06.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-z06-discussion/1187875-c5-z06-frequently-asked-questions-faq.html

Under FE4 suspension: "The Z06 features a suspension system all its own designated FE4. It's not available on other Corvette models but is standard equipment on the Z06."

If you can find anything that proves otherwise, I'd like to take a look see...

Do you have any proof that the targa commemorative edition had the Z06 suspension Georg?

To the best of my knowledge, the FE4 suspension (code name for Z06 suspension) was ONLY available on the Z06.

From what I can find (and recall) the commemorative edition is nothing more than an appearance package in every model but the commemorative Z06. The Z06 version received a painted carbon fiber hood.

Thanks Georg. I didn't know about the suspension. Now it makes sense as to why it was so good on the track.

@Viking
the C5 in this test was a special edition only 150times sold in europe it was fitted with the C5 Z06 suspension and brake (C5 Zo6 manual 1:14.9min) and it was a 6speed manual

I wanted to get an idea of what Sportauto could get out of these two cars. I used to own a 2002 Corvette with 6 speed manual, and I currently drive a Mustang GT 5.0 with 6 speed manual. German magazines don't always test every version of every American car, so these two are the closest I could find to my previous and current rides. I believe Sportauto had a difficult time getting a good launch out of the Mustang. The 55/45 weight distribution must be to blame. A better launch would make the 0-100 kph well under 5 seconds. I suspect the Corvette tested at Hockenheim must have had the Z51 suspension option in order to get that good of a time. My Corvette had the standard suspension, and was too soft. Even so, I did use it in SCCA competition. Albeit not very successfully.
