It shouldn't, but Mazda MX-5 is very quick. One of the few modern cars that are actually lightweight. Alpine is another one.

Quick? It's alright at best for modern standards. They were hanging low in the recent years, not even capable to keep up with a Fiesta ST.
I still don't really know why people call these "real" sports cars.

the mx5 is just a sports car with less of a focus on performance
