The equipment must weight close to the driver weight, if not more. So that's not a major concern.
NIN, does the source specifically mention that there are no mods for performance?

No modifications to help performance. Maybe a slight advantage by removing driver's weight is offset by the added equipment needed to drive the car.
Until a human gets to beat the time (it was a standing start and the car slowed to a stop at the finish), I guess the time should stay just for the sake of conversation.

Someone else did note that the car used wasn't the "facelift" version. It was a regular RS7.

A contraption that moves steering wheel and pedals (mechanical driver) is perfectly fine as far as fastestlaps.com rules :) It's just a different type of payload for the car.
If the robot is better than human - so be it. It's not cheating. We are interested in documenting the limits of what each car can do as far as laptimes, acceleration data etc.
