I like how this is tiny and lightweight, but what stopped them from putting a decent turbo 2.0 making 300+hp in this?

Renault needed to develop a new engine, because the old 2.0 doesn't accomplished the future emissions norms.
So they choose a 1.8, ligther, with low emissions and very sofisticated.
With the twin scroll turbo don't need more capacity.
