With the aerodynamics of this car I'm sure it could have hit 290 with a speed limiter removed.

User avatar

Honestly, if they really made a functional E31 M8 back in the 90s and we assume the claimed 1492kg is dry weight (which most likely is the case), this car could have taken on an M6 Competition with not too much effort. Top speed would have been in the high 340s to low 350s as well, provided the CD doesn't change.

I guess you can say
😎
this is the best car to own in Miami

Supreme machines and engineering marvels and FULL FORCE BMW and BMW MOTORSPORT created what was from memory, I mean where talking awhile ago, a dynamically accomplished thoroughbred. It was generations ahead of the base model.

And talking about that, it has reminded me of the BTCC 3 Series racers, I followed those too. Joachim Winkelhock and Steve Soper. Glory years.

This really was an M8, check the VIN and Engine codes. You will find the door sill has the M on it and M colors on the interior. Most of all the 5.6L engine was the foundation for the McLaren F1. Catch one while you can.

one of the best cars ive owned............................!

Its too bad the M8 supercar was never built because the prototype seemed incredible by early 90's standards. Financially it was a smart decision as the early 90's were a bad supercar market. With Audi and Mercedes both having their own supercars, it would be a good time for BMW to introduce a modern M8 supercar to compete.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Mental: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, BMW ought to reintroduce the Z8/M8, offer it as a coupe or roadster, and give it, the M5, M6, and M3 the 535 horsepower 6.0 liter V12 from the 760Li, 600 horsepower for M5, M6, and Z8/M8, give the Z4 the 4.0 liter Twin Power Turbocharged V8 from the M5, and reintroduce the 8-Series coupe.

User avatar

Mental  12y ago

@Shaggy
"The 760li still comes with a V12."

Really? Hmm, that car is so bland, unspectacular and peaceful that I completely forgot about that detail as well. That is not what I'd like to see. V12 under the hood of M6/M5 or Z4 - that would be hardcore! Even better would be if BMW introduced the new M8/Z8 V12 with marvelous aggressive classic bodies!

BTW, I loved pop-up headlights!

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

I like the pop-up headlights, but they are a bit outdated, and when something goes wrong with pop-up headlights and one is stuck up, the car looks like it's winking at you.;)

User avatar

BR2'  12y ago

As long as they dont bring back pop up headlights, im good.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Mental: The 760li still comes with a V12.

User avatar

Mental  12y ago

I absolutely love this car. Perfect design, big V12, which is pretty astonishing for a German car! True unique. Yeah, BMW needs to bring it back, and V12s.

User avatar

BR2'  12y ago

I would lso like for them to bring back the 8 Series, Was nice back in the day, That lovely shape, fitted with a V12 in coupe form.

Unfortunetley, given the weight of the car back then, a new 8 Series would prolly be round 4500Lbs fully fitted, Bmw should also fll in the gaps with there opther missing Series cars and stop the "Gran" cars and make them there own.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Arun: You have an awesome car, then.

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

I love the BMW 8-Series, especially the 850 csi. It's a beautiful car, and a classic, BMW should bring it back.

User avatar

Apathy  12y ago

The 8 series really was quite special.

I liked it more than the 6 series, though the new 6 is very nice as well.

Only thing about the 8 is I've heard they're a bitch to work on, and getting parts is a PITA.

User avatar

Arun  12y ago

i own one and it is brilliant really fast and nice looking car with throwing star alloys and m tech body kit.

Alpina said they can turn this car into look like BMW M8 with same performance (HP i mean)

User avatar

I'm suprised no-one buys them, reosonably sporty looking and racingy interior should be enough to get afew in them.

User avatar

It wont to 0-100km/h in 5.7sek with 280kW, if Alpina B12 Coupe 5.7 with 306kW does it in 5.8sek
