Your times and power are way off. My 2021M550ix has run 3.5 sec to 60mph (100kph). You gotta update your info for the newer ones, because the old ones are slow.

A 370hp M2 that weighed a further 75kg with the help of downsizing would work though. I'd want to see that, but it won't likely be a very reliable engine.

And that's why it is a rumor, Given the downsizing of displacement in cars, And the ever advancing of tech, And given Bmw is one of the top most advanced in he automotive industry, I don't see why they couldn't, I actually wanted the M3 to be an Inline 6, But it's hard to get back after a V8. Who knows only time will tell, I'd be both hilarious and awfull if it were true though.

Next M3 won't be 4 cylinder no so much because of technical limitations (and, yes, saxy is right about 500 PS being too far on the high-side for 2L) but rather because of the backlash BMW already got when they went from V8 to turbo 6 in E90. It really would end up costing them sales and even bigger "shit-storm" in automotive press and social media.

4-banger M3 is a no-go. E30 was 4 cylinder M car but that was waaaaay lighter and the engine was really something special (that crazy braaaaaaaap intake sound....) and not something that would pass emissions tests in 2017.

Bmw certainly have lost a lot of its charm. Ironically gained back much of it in its smaller car line ups and lower models. A BMW 125i/228i/320i/330i is like he essence of BMW. Basixally all the cars under 300hp. All the higher hp cars are just fat, turbo, tire munching cars that have become soft and bloated and go sideways too easily.

Once BMW make the 1 series FWD too it'll be certified.

I bet the next M3 will have a 3 liters twinturbo engine around 500 PS. If BMW M Division will ever make a 4 cylinder engine it would be M1 or something like that.

User avatar

saxy  8y ago

Come on. The next M3 will have around 500hp. It can't be a 2L. Not like you can't get 500hp from a 2L but not reliably in a road car

Also the next M3 is rumored to have an Inline-4 with possible Awd, But it's a rumour But it's not like it's not believable. As far as German brands go, The Golf is VWs only car that sticks to its roots, Performance car anyway, Audi pretty much gave up, Bmw is trying, But seems like a loosing battle, MB is getting softer and more aggressive all in one, Weird as shite, There like sticking to there roots yet completley going off, Yet beung what thwy should n represeant, Again weird, Porsche too, But there's the only one that seems to be really trying, But I think they'll pull a Bmw too but at a much much slower pace.

I'm sick of this diluting too, There's practically no M anymore other then it being a Leer then what it represents. I also think any car shouldnt have more then 5 variants, He'll a 3 series I think has like 15. Bmw should do what Audi does, A4/S4/RS4, 550i\N5/M5.

I think Bmw has almost given up on being the ultimate driving machine.

Well to be fair, AMG has even more variants and even the 4 cylinder which ironically is claimed to develop more power than its AMG powered 3L (though I bet the truth is not the case).

User avatar

FastestLaps  8y ago

But BMW should stop diluting the "power of M" and reserve this letter to real "M" cars only.

G30 will be much better than F10 across the model range.
