How can a car shaped like a Lotus Esprit be so slow.

@ Mental : Agree with you my friend , I love the most Giugiaro's works , But as you say all time I wonder why it's such a fail , too fail .
0-100 mph in near 40 seconds !!! and only 109 mph !!! Why ???

Every time I see this car I remember 'Back to the future' :)

I love the way how it looks - Giugiaro's masterpiece. But technically.. I wonder why it's such a fail. 170 hp was an enough amount of power for a good sportscar in 1980. And 1420 kg is not much. So why does it produce poor results? Shitty transmission? Shame...

I'd like to see this project kinda reborned - the same body with a modern tech. Unfortunately any big automakers are not going to do this business...

They were sold in America with about 140 horsepower, modifications that robbed the engine of power had to be made to conform to new emissions regulations.

The BTTF DeLorean did not have a Porsche engine. Bob mistakenly said that during the BTTF DVD but later admitted the mistake at a DeLorean event a few years ago.

Anonymous I think you missed Arie S's joke.

The De Lorean in Back to the Future had a porsche engine.

I'm sure these were sold with 156 bhp in some countries.

As long as it goes 88mph, the flux capacitor will work.

DMC (De Lorean Motor Companyn) designed that they would use a 200bhp V6 but then they eventually changed it to a cheaper 170bhp version to cut productioncosts. 177km/h is the top speed for the 3 speed automatic and 208km/h with manual. Who knows why...

I am sure the V6 does 200 km/h.

User avatar

Wads  18y ago

It may be a little higher than 109mph as thats the same stated top speed as the slower US 140bhp version which did 0-60 in 10.5sec and 0-100mph in 40!!!!

109.74 miles/h (177 km/h). That's top speed of a van.
