Can’t compete on looks, but if you want similar (if not better performance) at a fraction of the cost, then you might be very surprised to find it in a R170 SLK32 AMG.
Don’t get taken in by the ‘hairdressers car’ bar talk (unless it’s the 230 model or downwards). The 32 is a true AMG - it and its saloon car relative the C32, were the first cars launched after MB took ownership of AMG. The engine is a supercharged 3.2litre V6 which was hand built by a single AMG technician and used uprated internals. It is in essence a ‘balanced & blue printed’ 349BHP unit. Acceleration figures stated by MB were actually for the saloon car (0-60 in 5.1secs), but the SLK is a lighter car.
Only 263 RHD models were produced for the U.K. market, with a total of 4,300 worldwide, so it also a rarity.
