Had a terribly unreliable 1974 model that I owned from 1986-1990. Bought it from the previous owner for a mere $1500 and probably dropped north of $3K keeping it running - and I'm pretty handy with a wrench. What I loved the most about this car was the lovely exhaust note and the free revving engine. I hardly ever see these on the road anymore. Anyone in the USA interested in one of these cars should also check the "Bertone x1/9" which were the left over Fiats that Bertone sold under their name for a few years after Fiat stopped selling them in the US.

My first new car was an X1/9, back in 1979. I put 175,000 miles on it. Won my class in SCCA autocross. It took me everywhere. Did everything. Looked cool. Got great gas milage and was reliable. It was my little "Ferrari 154"..... until the real thing came along!

I'd be glad to see at least Barchetta's successor, as even that car way long time ago left its house... And even more I'd love to see the successor of X1/9's combination, a great fun little sportcar, kinda like Alfa 4C.

@ Georg

Fiat x 1/9 was a previous model of Fiat Barchetta and Barchetta was a succeeding model of Fiat x 1/9...look wikipedia!

@JAG

would be new that the Barchetta was a midengine RWD car...
Barchetta was a FWD hatchback in a roadster dress... poser car no driver car..

@Mental:
"Fiat needs to reborn this car. The recipe is so simple, so what Fiat is waiting for?"

?...succeeding model was Fiat Barchetta.

Fiat X1/9 Price (1977): 5.195 $

by way of comparison (1977)

Ferrari 308 GTB: 28.000 $
Maserati Merak: 21.700 $
Lamborghini Uracco: 24.150 $

...fair?

This was a cool little sportcar, beautiful and maneuverable. Fiat needs to reborn this car. The recipe is so simple, so what Fiat is waiting for?
