BMW Z8 piffle it took more horsepower to do what Jaguar XK did with less. And jaguar blew the doors off it. Plus I'll take a Mustang Mach One over any BMW.

@ Dear Viking , Agree with you and , My favorite of 007 movies , course are The Sean Connery films especially the Terence Young " From Russia with love " .
But I like the more realistic Spy movies such as the" Spy who came in from the cold " from great novel of " John Le Carre .
You are right The 1971 Mustang Mach-1 was the fastest Bond car until Z8 , if that Mustang has the 7 litre 429 engine .

My favorites of course are the Sean Connery films, especially the ones directed by Terence Young (Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Thunderball). The Guy Hamilton directed Connery films are pretty good as well (Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever). Peter Hunt did a fine job working with the novice actor George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service as well. I like, but had trouble taking seriously the Roger Moore films. Timothy Dalton was good, but needed to lighten up a bit to be better. Pierce Brosnan had a fine grasp of the character, though he needed a better script on his last film. I liked the Vanquish, but not the film (Die Another Day).

I did see it, but lacked interest, Both connery and Brosnon movies were better, its just not the same..

@BR2 Yeah, I know a lot of fans didn't like the idea of the series reboot and/or the somewhat ugly, blonde Bond: Daniel Craig. However, if you haven't seen Casino Royale I do recommend it. Read the original Ian Fleming novel and then see the movie, it is a good film adaptation. The Aston Martin DBS is nice as well, although it doesn't get a huge amount of film time. You can skip the Quantum of Solace, it is okay but has some faults. Skyfall looks to be good however, and I am looking forward to it.

I Stopped watching the Bond Movies after they stopped using Pierce Brosnon...

Yeah, this car was great in "Diamonds Are Forever". It was really cool seeing Sean Connery as James Bond racing through the streets of Las Vegas with it. I believe it was the fastest Bond car until "The World Is Not Enough" had Pierce Brosnan driving a BMW Z8 almost three decades later.

@ Super8 : Ford speak about 3.00 final ratio and 150 mph , the red line of this engine was 5900 rpm .

User avatar

Super8  13y ago

@ Bijan: Yeah i heard that too. They never test manual long ratio version of this car. Ford already test it. The top speed is came from Ford

There are so few Road tests exist from this car in 1971 U.S Mags . somthing about 6 road test .
Motor Trend in Jan 1971 tested 429 Mach-1 with 3-speed Auto and 3.25 rear end and the result :
1/4 mile 14.61 @ 96.80 mph and the 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds .
Top speed est 113.5 mph and actual 144 mph in 5900 rpm .

Probably this is the fastest first gen Ford Mustang. In Motor Trend January 1971 said, the close ratio of this Mustang can reach 13.8 @ 104 mph with 0-62 mph under 6 second and topped out at 114 mph. Meanwhile, Ford said this car can reach 150 mph with their top long ratio gearbox without any internal problem and very stable. It means this car almost has a same performance like 1968 Shelby GT500 KR. The fastest first gen Shelby Mustang
