F-Type V8 S competition

I’ve owned my V8 S convertible for 3 years. Has the dynamic pack with G meter and suspension tweaks etc. I’ve pulled 0.76g accel. and 1.12g cornering. It handles well but does feel heavy and can get some brake fade after very spirited driving round a Big Sur. The exhaust notes are epic. Gearbox is decent in sport mode or you can use the paddles to pick your gears. I’ve certainly enjoyed it and it’s a practical everyday car (mine has over 70k miles now!).

Guys I question your average MPG quoted above as I am getting 25.3 MPG average from my 2014 5L Supercharged V8 S?
Switch between ECO and dynamic as mood takes me...damn happy with that!

Man! That test has been there for 3 months and I didn't even notice!!! Those numbers are insane! Those numbers are "Just About" as fast as a C6 ZO6. I never would have guessed this would hit 60 in 3.4s. But with around 540Bhp at the crank(447Whp), Guess they weren't as honest. But hell who gives a damn, Not only is this car gorgeous, its fast as shite! With a good price to. Is there any need for a F-Type R? Or F-type R-S or god forbid an F-Type R-S GT..
Mental 11y ago
And here you get even better acceleration for the V8 F-Type!
0-60 mph - 3.4 sec;
1/4 mile - 11.6 @ 122
Who would ever suppose that a 1797 kg Roadster with an automatic gearbox would be THAT fast? MT also sent the car to the dyno where the wildcat outputted 447 whp.
And I'm curious how the F-Type can so much faster than the so much powerful XKR-S?? The only explanation I've got so far that XK's 6-speed sucks, but F-Type's 8 Quick Shift is as sublime as Porsche's PDK!
BTW, by Motor Trend's test data this Jaguar accelerates faster than the F12berlinetta, LOL, hilarious...
ddd 11y ago
@Germans are joking ? Or what ?
9,5s from 100-200 is a very , very good acceleration.
For this car, for its weight it is a realy good acceleration time..

Car&Driver has just got the BEST Numbers so far!!!
0-60Mph: 3.6s
0-100Mph: 8.3s
0-124Mph: 12.9s
0-150Mph: 20.2s
1/4 Mile: 11.9@120.8Mph

Very Impressive, specially that 0-60Mph time, on par with a ZO6!
We haven't had a mag tested 11s 1/4 Mile Jaguar since the XJ220, WELL worth the £79,985 Asking price.

Everybody talking about fast acceleration, are u serious?
9.5sec from 100-200 is pretty weak for a car with 1,65t and a horsepower plateau of ~480hp over 1000reps.
The reason it's not that fast:
1)Jaguar did fake the data about weight; in every test they measured it over 200kg(!) over the factory claim
2) bad aerodynamics
But for sure, it's a fast car which looks fantastic.

Eeeh, I wish I could see this car alive too, listen to its roar... But the most exotic modern supercar I've ever seen is just a basic Murcielago...
Anyway, F-Type Coupe is expected to arrive at next years Geneva.
AND. Not just Jaguar is planning to make F-Type-R-S, but exterme limited-edition -R-S-GT is also under consideration. Rumored to generate 600 PS and LOTS of downforce... :] ... I'm so waiting for this killer-wildcat...
ddd 12y ago
I like that car...Propably the best convertible for me nowadays.
Good looking, powerfull, very fast even from 100-200 and propably even after 200, luxurious, quite comfortable...astonishing car.

"maybe they'll make a R-S version too?"
I think yes. They already presented a Computer Concept of the F-Type RS.
BR2+ 12y ago
Dont see why not, they got the XKRS and the XFRS, all they need know is an XJRS and an S or RS version of the F.
But it may be awhile, although, knowadays, more powerfull and faster versions of cars are being offered to the public ALOT quicker then they used to, for instance, a C5 ZO6 was 4 years away from the base C5, a CSL was 3 years away from an M3, a LP640 3 years, an LP560 5 years away, but I don't think we will have to wait that long to see a better version, not in todays pressure of performance.
BR2+ 12y ago
This car should have been a full on Coupe 1st, maybe even a targa, Thought it was a bit weird they made it a droptop. similar price as an XKR, it will hurt it sales.
But atleast when they do introduce a full coupe version, itll loose 110Kg and improved aerodynamics, and an SS version to boot.

yeah i was watching it as well, just yesterday.
chris harris said that the jag feels the most disconnected out of those 3 cars and has the least driving pleasure.
the jag even has an electric motor which moves the vents of the aircon out of the dash. how unnecessary is this...
it also made it out as last, with the vantage being first and the porsche second, which is weird to me as he said that the porsche was the best driving experience on the street and the track.
but oh well, he even mentioned that he values the looks and badge in this comparison.
Mental 12y ago
Ugh, the weight disappointed... F-Type looks much smaller and lighter than it actually is. But whatever, I would take the Jag over any Aston V8 any day.
I've seen a comparison test F-Type V8-vs-V8 Vantage Roadster-vs-991 Carrera S Cabrio by Chris Harris, and the Monkey had LOTS of fun driving the Jag, even round the track. The wildcat looked so aggressive and swift! Oh, and that thrilling wild sound! And the looks! I'd drive that baby round the track all the day!
For a while Jag seemed to me as a favourite, but then I remembered about the Porsche. Porsche is also very exciting in its own way - maneuverability, German quality, Boxer6 sound... And it is the fastest, as expected. I love both 991 and F-Type, so cannot tell what car is a total leader. Aston is also a good car, but it's too old already and slow, and too expensive.
Of course, Jag F-Type V8S is not built directly on performance purposes. But if you want a performance oriented wildcat, like I do, then you're lucky to expect the F-Type GT. Rumored to generate 600 ponies and lots of downforce, and to be on diet! Oh, I'm so willing about that Jaguar supercar!
BR2' 12y ago
...Who buys Jags today to blast it and have fun round a track?....
I would also take a V8/V12 Vantage over the F-Type...But ONLY if the Astons were NON droptops, and ONLY if they were, but if they aren't, id take this over the Astons, and ANY 991 with the exception of the GT3(Manual or not)
Sure, its heavy, it is a Jaguar, But I wouldn't buy this kind of car to take to track days, or to have fun in, Comfort, Cruising ability, Gorgeous looks, that's why id buy it, plus id save a lot over the Aston, and possibly 991 variant, but that's just me.
The looks alone are worth every penny.
Hamcee 12y ago
this car is bigger as a vantage and almost as big as the sls amg.
i would take it over a vantage any minute if it would have had a manual and if it would be 200lbs lighter.
now i dont really see why u would get one of these over a porsche 991 or aston martin.
1800kg is really big and it kills some of the fun. 16xx kg in the other hand would have been fine imo
BR2' 12y ago
Who cares about laptimes when you have such a gorgeous car like this?
The people who buy this car, don't care about how fast it goes around a track, But I didn't expect its weight to be 3900lbs, but the pic is deceiving, its not as small as it looks, looks TT size from all the pics, but its not.
Baron95 12y ago
Sadly, the F-type was tested (on the scales) at 3,839lbs for the V6 S (Road and Track) and 3,990lbs- 2 tons - for the V8 S (Autocar).
It was also tested by Tiff Needell/Evo and the F-type V8-S was slower on a circuit lap than a Boxter S with 180 fewer HP.
This thing will not turn up good lap times with that weight.
