@fastestlaps this is the facelift version of this car:

This is the same exact car as the 2007 original. Just because it has a facelift or minor improvements makes it pointless to add here. It's clear that this page has less lap times and a relatively marginal set of 0-100 and 0-200km/h times compared to the "older" one.

On the one track both cars competed in, the 2011 only shaved off 1 second.

I just want to point out that the IS-F's exhaust tips are not fake. They protect the body work. They act as heat sinks that conduct the heat from the exhaust away from the bumper.
Further, most quad exhausts are not functional at all anyway. Adding a second outlet to the same pipe doesn't usually do anything for performance. Quad tips have always been mostly about looks.

@ Fangio Man
BMW's official explanation

"The Active Sound Design technology specially developed for the new BMW M5 takes its cues from the driving situation at any one time to deliver an accurate reproduction of the engine's sound through the car's audio system. The system's digital signal processing exchanges data directly with the engine management, allowing it to reflect the engine's revs and torque, and the car's speed over the road. The result over a smoothly driven journey is a discreet soundtrack in keeping with the harmonious and assured characteristics of the V8 powerplant. A stamp on the accelerator, meanwhile, prompts an immediate audible response to match the instantaneous ā€“ and typically M ā€“ burst of power from beneath the bonnet."

Or you can just pull the fuse and listen to the actual engine/exhaust.

"The M5 uses its speakers for artificial exhaust sound"

How does it work?

User avatar

Apathy  12y ago

The IS-F has fake exhaust tips, the rest of the exhaust is "real."

550x800m

The M5 uses its speakers for artificial exhaust sound, but the IS-F doesn't.

@Iggz
No it is not.

But the R8 e-trons are fake... :D

User avatar

Shaggy  12y ago

@ Iggz: Most likely not! LOL

Iggz  12y ago

Is it true that the exhaust pipes on this car are fake. Exhaust sound is artificially created using loudspeakers ?

the 1/4 mile time should be way less than 13.3 more like 12.5 or 12.6

I love the IS-F, it's fast, and looks and sounds awesome. =)

Nice, still prefer the Mercedes C63 though, but very nice.

the 2012 modelyear IS-F main different to the older is a completely new suspension, shocks from ZF new springs, bigger anti roll bars, new axle bearings and reworked axle geometry...according to sportscars the different to the early IS-F is huge much better handling and more precise steering ... resulting in a much better Sachsenring time
