Oddly, Fascination DVD does not include specs for 420. Just 380 and 500.

About ps vs hp - ps (or metric horsepower) is not equal to hp we use in this site. We use U.K. horsepower which is equal to 1.0138 ps/metric hp.

Scratch that it's got 228bhp.

Carfolio has the 0-62 at 8.2, if that means anything.

1.0139hp = 1 bhp

I give plenty of crap so I don't mind getting it, it's always quite funny.
0-60 was tested at 7.6 (check the link) It can do 73mph in second (and 122 in 3rd, that does sound funny.) so there won't be a gearchange slowing down the 0-62 too much, so I thought 7.9 was fair, but maybe 8.0 Also these are all UK tests there will be slight, very xxxxxxx annoying differences which I have already experienced and it didn't agree with me at all.
While we are at it, as far as I know hp and ps are the same thing, ps being the german abbreviation for horse power. Cars are sold in the UK, for example - golf gti 200 hp 197 bhp, or 200PS 197bhp.

I can confirm that it's 218ps/215 hp. Autocar confused hp with ps. It's the same with 190 2.6 and I have corrected it there also. I will take a look at what "Fascianation" DVD has to say about 0-100 km/h time.

I just love it how there is always an invisible expert watching your every move, God forbid you make a mistake, he will instantly make everyone notice! :D

160kw makes more sense than 162. between 1985 and 1987 the 420SE/SEL had 160kw/218PS, between 1987 and 1991 it had 170kw/231PS. Are you sure the 7.9 s is 0-100 km/h not 0-60 mph? It seems a bit optimistic.

I'm no merc expert but 220ps would make more sense.

The year of introduction is 1985. It has 160kw/218PS. Please correct!

The manuals must have been a fair bit quicker.
