Damn, these modern day diesel engines make petrol engines look stupid and completely pointless!

and yet the c250 petrol as sold in america is quicker than it's diesel sibling

and yes i was surprised, 500nm is a lot of torque so i expected the cdi to be quicker, but diesel engines don't rev as fast as petrol due to diesel burning slower

Because it was already a turbocharged petrol, like all modern petrols are today. If it was some old-school lazy V6, you would have to rev it high for it to be as fast and it would not "feel" faster and definitely not be as elastic.
