the orginale is the Diplomat it was part of Opels KAD model line KAD model line was KapitƤn, Admiral Diplomat, all three share the same chassis, same wheelbase etc. the different were the available engines and luxury options. The Diplomat V8 was top of the line, it was only sold as Holden Statesman in Aussie ... GM wanted to use the KAD line chassis as base for the Caddy Seville but dropped the idea because redesign of the chassis would have cost to much money.
The only other car build on the Diplomat V8 chassis was the Bitter CD

@ Fangio Man: Chevrolet didn't build a diplomat, and I think the Opel is, but I'm pretty sure Dodge didn't name their Diplomat after the Opel.

Dodge and Chevrolet built a Diplomat, too? Which is the original?

@ Super8: This would win in a race.

They should have a battle with other Diplomat from USA. The Dodge Diplomat and see who is better Diplomat.

German Cadillac. Opel Diplomat with GM small-block V8. This is the most sublime Opel ever. American engine, German engineering. Very impressive luxury car.

Of course, the car was a barge, give it even a big American engine. Performance was slightly more than 200 kph top speed, and 0-100 in about 8.5 seconds. But that wasn't the car's purpose. You could take a bath in high-quality leather inside and enjoy the old-good Caddy-style. A Cadillac with an Opel badge available for the European market. Excellent.

Pity, Opel does not make cars like this anymore. I think a big luxury car with LSA engine in a modern interpretation is a needed Opel's flagman nowadays.
