I would love to see Porsche 997 4x4 PDK with that astonishing 4,0 500 Hp N/A engine.

It would be a fantastic car.

User avatar

saxy  11y ago

god... HP has little to with this. How many times can you post about this and how many times can I roll my eyes.

These so called rolling drag races start at a certain speed and a certain gear, usually in 2nd. A turbo virtually has maximum engine pull between 3000-7000rpm, a NA engine of similar size doesn't quite have the same pull until above 7000rpm.

A Camaro z28 will get monstered from a standing start OR a rolling start compared to a M6. But it will monster it on a track. Again, manual vs DCT, NA vs turbo (and thats a much bigger NA engine).

500 hp vs 500 hp ? However Stock 997 Turbo has about 550 hp for real and PDK = that difference.

It is interesting how much power has 997 Turbo for real. PDK and 20 hp more wont make that kind of difference.

Corvettes are very nice cars, quite sophisticated machines. I have owned two of them, a 1995 convertible, and a 2002 convertible. Excellent performance, and surprisingly good fuel economy on the highway. With petrol prices going up, I miss that fuel economy a lot.

User avatar

We have top gear to thank for the Corvette hate.

I remember literally turning red in the face when Clarkson went on his rant about leaf springs and said the vette had ox cart suspension. I've talked to many Europeans that think the vette has a solid rear axle and traditional leaf springs like whats used on a truck.. it makes me sick. I blame top gear lol.

User avatar

Having said all that, the Dodge Daytona of 1969 was capable with taller optional gears of showing its tail lights at top speed to all available unmodified cars for many years. "Theoretically", I say, since I don't think anyone actually published such a test of the Dodge Daytona's ultimate top speed. The closest in potential top speed to the winged wonders (Daytona and Superbird) would be the Ferrari Daytona. According to Brock Yates, and Dan Gurney the Ferrari could reach 173 mph with the gears they used in the Cannonball Run event.

User avatar

Viking  13y ago

@Bijan I agree, there is no evidence that the Daytona could reach 187 mph without modifications. With the stock rear axle ratio of 3,23 and the optional 426 Hemi engine 425 horsepower (gross) actually producing circa 350 hp (net), it would reach 160 mph at redline. Higher numerical gears are actually shorter, so lower numerical gears: 2.73 for instance might increase the top speed if the horsepower can overcome the drag. I think that with optimal gears the Daytona might equal a C5 350 hp Corvette's top speed of 175 mph. Theoretically at least. NASCAR modified Daytonas had a lot more power than stock (up to 600 hp (net) maybe) and ran very tall (low numerical ratio) gears, and therefore could top 200 mph easily.

187 mph for 1969 Daytona ?!!!! its fake .

997 non facelift turbo is faster in 0-300 acceleration ! ironic

User avatar

Super8  13y ago

But no one can defeat european car in style and characteristic. I bet you'll choose to bring 911 Turbo to party than bring a Dodge Viper SRT10 cuz American car it's kinda... scary like a Monster.

User avatar

Super8  13y ago

@ Jeff B : Yup i agree with you. Not all of american car is rubbish. Some of them are record breaker Hp in the past and a speed breaker as well. Take a look at Dodge Charger Daytona R/T! It held fastest speed in America from 1970 until 1983. it has 0.28 cd and reach speed 160 mph with close ratio gearbox. But with long ratio 3.55 final, it can reach 187 mph without any problem. It's impressive for 1969 car.

User avatar

Bijan  13y ago

@ Jeff B , I'm agree with you some american cars are brilliant , today and even in the past 1960' for example . many people just say : plastic with big engine , thats it , I don't think so . I love Driving , competition driving and sports cars, German , italian , British , American and japanise any way . although , I'm not american .

User avatar

......  13y ago

@Jeff B Its alright let the haters flow in because its them thats making the ZR1 the most talked about car on this whole website. Thanks MondayBlues :D

User avatar

Jeff B  13y ago

I'm sick and tired of all the anti-american bias...
Honestly, it seems like no US car can be good in most foreign people's eyes. You can't go to a single US car review video on YT without endless pages of people saying "Plastic american crap"...
People need to stop living in the past, the US is making good cars right now, the Corvette is no exception.

User avatar

Apathy  13y ago

I'd own the car that's the most fun to drive.

For me, it's the one with the most driver involvement. One that puts a smile on my face every time I get on the throttle or take a turn even half way to the limit.

So I'd have to test drive both.

Since you're so convinced the Turbo S is better Louis, I assume you've driven both. Oh wait, you haven't.
So you're just basing your decision on magazine figures and your irrational bias...
Suck on your stupidity; you'll never run out.

@LoUiSm!1
Another ZR1 hater?
You have to be hopelessly incompetent behind the wheel to get 4.2 seconds to 60 in a ZR1...

http://www.fastestlaps.com/comparisons/a5brl9s7nbht

Well, well....it takes the 911 Turbo 41.9 seconds to get to 300 kph, and the ZR1? 32.6 seconds. Boom.

And the ZR1 destroys the Turbo on a track so...clearly you are wrong. Now please check your facts before you do an anti-american rant.

User avatar

LoUiSm!1  13y ago

There is only 1 question to ask yourself.. If you had a letter from the owner of both Porsche and Corvette saying you can have a Porsche 911 turbo s or a Corvette ZR1 for life all expences paid no matter what. What car would you choose?? Anyone that chose the ZR1 can only need help. Or must be an American so over the moon that their country has finally produced a car that can go around a track. How is a ZR1 faster.. 0-60 times.. ZR1 4.2 secs 911 Turbo s 3.3 on paper or 2.84 on this test.. .youtube.com/watch?v=4jOQFMlpdVI lets not be silly or attached to the car you have spent your own money on. lool suck that :)

User avatar

Sal  14y ago

if you can't count, the 120K ZR1 beats the 165K 997.2 Turbo PDK at 11 of 12 tracks compared. The ZR1 also beat the 200K 997.2 Turbo S at every track compared!

11 of 12!!!!

ZR1 IS YOUR KING!!!

User avatar

Mike B  14y ago

nah, I'm not (:
And what you say about american cars well, they used to be that, as the automakers were more concerned for the much better profits of their incredibly high truck and SUV sales, their cars became uncompetitive and outdated but their getting good recently, the new offers from the big 3 are pretty decent, especially Fords.

User avatar

Piotr  14y ago

@Mike you're probably an American ;)
American cars are very plastic and shoddy, that's true.
They have big engines and lot of plastic thats it.

User avatar

Mike B  14y ago

A fully loaded ZR1 is around 128k and it would need at least another 10k to match the Turbos interior
but yes, the 2009-2011 ZR1 is at least ~1% faster than the Turbo PDK with Potenza RE050As.

So I'll say hats off to Porsche, for making their Turbo only ~1% slower than the Corvette despite being 80kg heavier, 145hp down on power and with inferior tires.

@anna
american cars aren't trahsy.

User avatar

but americans cars are trashy

User avatar

Sal  14y ago

jj you're an idiot!

120K vs 165K(fully loaded)...

The only limiting factor is $$$.

120K ZR1 also smokes the 200K 997.2 Turbo S at every track!

ZR1 IS KING KONG!!!!
