Auto Motor und Sport 17/1984:
Curb weight - 1045 kg (35,4%/64,6%)
(They called test car A310 S, but I couldn't see any difference in specifications to the car from 20/1982 test, except some changes in exterior, like wider fenders and rear spoiler)
0-60 kph 3,5 sec
0-80 kph 5,7 sec
0-100 kph 8,0 sec
0-120 kph 11,9 sec
0-160 kph 22,7 sec
0-180 kph 31,9 sec
400 m - 15,8 sec
1000 m - 29,4 sec
Top speed - 218 kph
Slalom 18m - 60,3 kph
Hockenheim short average speed - 110,5 kph
(AMUS stated track length as 2634 m, so laptime should be - 1:25,8)

Pretty impressive performance for 1981.

the original A310 offers a better aerodynamic than the 911 which compensate the lack of power.

In the middle of 80’s, Renault offer to Alpine the “GT Pack”: an aggressive body inspired by the V6 Groupe 5 race car (Success proved by the German tuner Fleischmann who created a lot of body and engine kits)
But one more time, Renault refused to provide a better engine. In the last years, endly Renault provided the upgraded 196bhp V6 with reinforced breaks to make the ultimate A310 V6 GT “Boulogne” built to only 22 cars (2 are already destroyed by fire…)

After that, Alpine launched the “GT” with once again a low power engine… (160bhp) but with a record aerodynamic coefficient of 0.28 (0.40 for a 911) and later endly the “V6 Turbo” with 200bhp and a Cx of 0.30 offered high performances and a top speed of 250km/h and later the A610…
It is really sad to see that Renault famous for its Turbo sports cars (R5 Alpine, R5 Turbo, R5 Turbo 2, R9&R11 Turbo, R25Turbo, R18Turbo, Fuego Turbo, R21 2L Turbo…) killed Alpine because of stupide internal jealousy from some people from Renault. Alpine had all to stay a legend sports cars manufacturer like Porsche today…

The first A310 1600VE was motorised by the same engine than the legendary A110 1600S. But with a more important weight, the car’s performances were lower than its famous ancestor.
Comparatively to the A110, the A310 is a 2+2 Coupé with a very good handling and confort at very high speed. The A310 bodyworks would handle much more power as proved by the monstrous A310 V6 Group 5 (up to 350ch) which stricken the 911RSR in tarmac french Rally Championship.
Regarding the need of more power asked by customers, Alpine (bought by Renault at the beginning of 70's), Alpine included a 2700 V6 engine tuned to 150bhp. The engine designed to be a V8 before the first petroleum shock has been amputated of 2 cylinders… The engine suffer of dynamical equilibrium issues which limits its high rev comportment: this engine must be driven by the torque.

Regarding the A310 4cyl, the V6 more powerful offer a better top speed (235km/h) and a better acceleration but the car is now more a GT than a true sport car. The bigger engine degraded the excellent weight balance of the original 4 cyl and got a car less agile.

By the fault of Renault which refused to provide to Alpine a more powerful engine (available in 80’s on the R25 saloon), the A310 was distanced by the Porsche 911 in term of pure performances. But in comparison with a 911SC, the A310 is a more efficient and sportier car because of its lower gravity center and lower weight. In the same way, the original A310 offers a better

Just a tiny correction... the engine is in the rear. Also, this car was the 2+2 sucessor to the alpine A110, and the predecessor to the Alpine GTA.

Yeah, that is a fine looking car. Looks leaner and more muscular than many of today\'s cars. Very light weight for a V6 rear wheel drive car. Color match the bumper and mirrors put in a newer V6 or other compact engine and equip it with a six speed manual and it should sell well today.

Paint the black front bumper, new wheels, new mirrors, update the lighting and it could pass for a current model.

Very stunning for a 30 year old car.

@Monkfg

there were plenty cars of the late 1960´s early 1970´s with a design lightyears ahead it´s time... some of them just would need modern wheels with flat wide tires and they would still look up to date...

Thanks!
I thought it was some kind of a limited model because of the strange futuristic look.

@Monkfg
between 1971 and 1985 some 12,000 A310, it started as a 4cyl 1.6l with 115hp in 1971...the selling was poor because of it´s high price which was higher than it´s europen competitoners...the selling of the 4cyl was so poor no matter if cheaper 95hp version or stronger 124hp version that they sold only 2340 4banger ...first they wanted to give it a V8 but the oil crisis stoped this project and they cutted the already in development V8 and made a V6 of it..the reason why the early V6 of the A310 run very rough till they developt a new crankshaft. Some 9260 V6 were sold which was much better than the early inline4 ...this one here is the facelift V6 with 5speed manual, larger bumper at the front wider fenders etc..

They built quite a few but they are a rare site these days as a 30 year old Renault is also a rare thing to see driving on the road.

How many of these have been built?
