I mean you're forgetting the Alpine a610, a110, GTA V6 Turbo, 205 GTI 1.9L, Renault Clio V6, Venturi 300 LM, Venturi 400 (faster than a Bugatti EB 110), Venturi 200, Citroën ZX 16S, Citroën AX GTI, Peugeot 405 MI16 and T16 (faster than an M3 Evo 1), i'm also not talking about Bugatti and/or Ligier. The French did produce a lot of not only decent but Amazing sports car 💀💀.

Also the N.A. Clio 2.0, various fast Meganes etc. Those, of course, are not purely sports cars but fast hatches (sporty practical cars).

If we go far back in the history, you will see they made all kinds of exotic cars, including some of the fastest of that era.

In 1951 a Talbot-Lago T26 took second place at Le Mans, not bad for a street legal sports car. A Jaguar C-Type took first place that year. The French have made some impressive performance cars. Most of them have been unavailable to those in the U.S. though. I would love to try one of their fast hatches for comparison to other cars that I have driven.
