That poses an interesting dillema, The car is stock, But it has an optional setup that would make it non street legal?..If thats the case, Laptimes for said cars might get rather difficult, The car itself is stock, So whether the setting make it non road legal, I think is fine, So as long as all the parts are by the factory for the stock car, I dont see a problem.

@ saxy

There is a front splitter on the ACR but the extension parts (that extend the splitter to beyond the front bumper) are in a plastic bag in the trunk/rear hatch when the owner takes delivery. It is a simple bolt on (8 bolts, iirc).

EDIT: Found it!...
A splitter track extension is included in the trunk of every Viper ACR. The track extension
is mounted in the same location as the center rub strip. The on-track aerodynamic
balance was optimized with the track extension in place.
To install the track extension, remove the eight (8) screws of the center rub strip and
install the extension in the same mounting locations.
Tighten fasteners to 70 in-lbs (7.9 N·m).

The Mustang is the same as far as not being on the Boss L.S. when the owner takes delivery.

It's probably just a matter of not taking crash tests (costly for a limited production) with the splitter installed or it may have to do with pedestrian protection laws that some places have.

Well is the ACR front splitter pre-installed and fully adjustable to begin with? if yes i have no problem with that. It's like growing bigger wings when u are on the track. But if it's manually installed, then I'd say no.

If it's ok to classify a car faster, after putting on new road illegal bodywork, then you might as well put on full racing slicks when you get to the track. It might be even easier to install, and certainly faster to drive

There are other "non-street legal" things here and there that most people ignore.

Front splitters like those on the Viper ACR (when fully extended) and Mustang Boss 302 L.S. aren't street legal but everyone ignores the technicality.

From Ford...(very small in the corner)

**Front air splitter included in Laguna Seca Package
is intended for race track use only and is not legal for
on-street driving. May degrade crash performance and
void vehicle warranty. Must be installed by customer*

I don't let the minor things bother me. The ACR's times are legit just as the P1's "race mode" times are legit, IMO.

it's not legal in the sense, you can't drive the car in that mode on a public road, but when you get to the track, oh yes you can.

I'm surprised how few cars have used this to enhance their track credentials.

However there are cars that kind of work the other way around. rather than have a lower function for the track, they have a raise function for speed bumps and rough roads

If you listen in the video by Jethro, he says the race suspension is not road legal on the P1, the time should be deleted, hands up for the 918.

Yes it was, EVery car that has that rear diffuser or rear air dams or whatever is a Weissaiiesche pack car. I wish theyd get rid of those stupid decals though.

i think they said in the video that this time was for the weissach package.

@saxy
compeletely agreed with u
porsche just went there and set a lap time for fun
just like this:
hey boy , do u have time for this afternoon to go to a track and have some fun ,, Yes i have ,lets go
respect p1 ,,but 918 is a better car

agree, i would love to drive it without roof hearing the engine screaming, but if i were to try to set the fastest time possible i would have the roof on

User avatar

saxy  10y ago

god... why did they bother to set 2 different times with different tires on the P1 and didn't bother to think... hmm, maybe with the roof ON, there would be a difference in handling speeds too...

epic fail

Edit: now having watched the full video. you know what, if I had a 918 on a track, I would too, take the roof off, because it just sounds amazing and it'll just be that much more fun than a P1.

In additional notes, I think it should be noted that the car had only 1 set of tires and no support team. Basically, car, and keys, go do it. Good job Porsche

addittional info: lap time was set with the roof off
