Driver is Horst von Saurma for 4C. Cayman S used carbo-ceramic brakes for its 7' 55" time and driver was Walter Rohrl.
4C should be compared to Cayman standard car, not the S version. There will be a more "sporty" 4C in the future.

The car doing the 8:04 was one of the first 500 4C fitted with all performance parts u have to pay later at the standard 4C extra. For sure if a normal customer will have a 4C in the conditions like the one driving the 8:04 he needs to pay a lot more than the 50,500Euro. The first 500 4C of the launch edition cost over 60,000Euro thats much closer to the 64K euro a Cayman S costs than the 51K a Cayman base costs!

cars should be compared to its priceclass. if the other car offers more for the same price, than so be it. tho, that being said, the 4c is noticeably cheaper in europe than the cayman s, but more expensive in the usa

car compare is always difficult...
1. compare in its class
2. in its class in the right price range

comparing all in one class is as wrong as comparing all only based on price...

u have to learn that in EVERY car class is a wide price range from bargain to extreme expansive

There are many reasons why..
- company politic
* selling cars for no win because they are attention getter
* selling cars under price of competition
- company size
* large car makers like GM can easy sell cheap performance models compared to small scale producers
* company size reduce development costs dramatic because they can use everything in more than one or two models
* company size reduce part costs, if u need 10.000 pieces makes each piece cheaper than low numbers like 500

The Alfa 4C price is for sure a attack price on Porsche payed by Fiat to bring back life into the death Alfa Romeo brand. I am pretty sure they earn nothing with the 4C if not in worst case they loose money with each car sold.
They only do this car to restart the brand ....

I bet its no way that it will be heavier than 1050 kg with some good, light turbocharged even 4 cylinder engine. And if Mercedes can squeeze 360hp from 2.0 liter Alfa should be able do about 400 from 2.5 engine.

And yes that car would be monster, beceause its MODERN lotus, not just lotus.

I'm even thinking about a turbocharged V6 generating 400 PS. I know the exhaust sound wouldn't too impressive, but imagine its performance! It could be a potential supercar-killer, even close to the superb 991 GT3! Alfa, make it now!

BTW, no way on Earth this Alfa can be faster than Exige S. And the laptime is honestly good enough.

The 4C is the fastest under 250hp car around the northloop...faster than KTM X-bow, Donkervoort, Caterham and other lightweights outside the Radical madness

the northloop is no good track to scale the performance of lightweight but good handling cars... the long straights and long uphill sections are always a big drawback for low power light weight cars, even if they have good hp/to rating, north of 160km/h is power all that matters because aerodynamic drag is becoming a greater force than weight and there are plenty of places at the northloop were u get over 160km/h...specially on the long uphill section from Bergwerk to Karussell.
The Boxster has slightly more power and a extrem good aerodynamic ... win win on the northloop vs the 4C. Pretty sure on a typical GP track with short straights and low and mid speed corners this thing turns into a time attack monster.
looking at GebhartĀ´s Lotus Exige S with 350hp 7:53min laptime with 320hp/to driven with a knife between the teeth to this 4C 260hp/to time, the 8:04min is excellent

Groovy, I have been impatiently waiting for lap times for this glorious Alfa. I have been playing a lot lately on very curvy roads with a lightweight mid-engine two seater, so I can certainly see the advantage of such a platform. I am not disappointed by the lap time, a better driver might gain 5 or 10 seconds on such a long course, but nothing shameful about an 8:04. I would like to see a video, is there one available? I like the 4C a lot, and I applaud Alfa Romeo for making it. Groovy car, its stats read a lot like a sixties sports race car (read small), but wider like a modern LMP-1 (LeMans prototype). :)

I Agree that it needs more power, 240Bhp is a bit less then I would have given it,, id say 300Bhp Max, and maybe 340Bhp 4C GTA Version.

But lol, Its not gonna be faster then an Exige S..

And how is an 8:04 bad?..

I repeat:
-I watch first review of this car an clearly car is too good for 240 hp, it barely spin, it have grip everywhere in the corner.
-Second - lap is bad.

Fix it and for sure it will be faster than Lotus Exige S

Simply because your lightweight, or have more Bhp per ton, does in no way mean your going to be faster.

The Cayman S may be heavier, but it also has 80Bhp More, And given its a Porsche claim, most likely a lot more laps then the 4C. And don't be using a Open top convertible as an excuse.

60k, 240Bhp, Alfa, that's more impressive then a Cayman in my opinion.

I found this laptime pretty much excellent. Of course, it could have been 5 seconds quicker, but still, it's almost as fast as CTS-V, which has more than twice of power.. as well as twice of weight...

For its power level it's the fastest car. But I really wish, like Hans told, it had a bigger n/a 6-cyl engine outputing 300+ PS and be a bit heavier, but being able to outperform Cayman S, and sounding like a true noble Italian supercar.

hamcee: ok found the reference. that was rohrl driving it. von saurma took 10secs more, 8.05..strange, because von saurma's times are normally within 5-6 secs from rohrl's.
we don't know who drove 4c. italians have no competent drivers on nurburgring

the current gen cayman s did it in 7:55 while being 20bhp/tonne down.

and the boxster s did it in 7:58 despite being a convertible and 30bhp/tonne down.

I wished the 8C would either have a laptime at the Nordschleife. Would be an interesting comparison: 8C is a way heavier but stronger, 4C probably has a better handling.

Yeah, would be interesting to see.

Very Impressive, I wouldn't have expected that, Maybe the new Alfas have Evolved there handling ristics,(They aren't known for the prowess in handling) Weight aside, 8:04 with 240Bhp is HIGHLY Impressive, Maybe it will be faster then a Cayman 2.7.
