Hamcee, in no way is the 458 that C&D tested in 'stock' form. That car was specifically set up for VIR and delivered by Ferrari. The GS vette turned 2:58 in C&Ds hands 3yrs ago... expect 2:54 - 2:55 out of the C7. There are so many variables you could throw in here for all these cars.... bottom line is that the C7s time is damn impressive regardless of the hands it's in. Give respect where it's due. The only accurate comparison is same driver, same day, stock setup for these cars. Guess most of y'all still fail to see the years of engineering advancement that went into this car. The C7 just came within 0.7 secs of a new Viper on Willow in Edmunds hands. The grip, balance, handling of this car is unreal for it's entry point. The driver skill gap with the C7 has greatly improved over the C6.

@Shaggy
Yes, but look at this gap! No car set a laptime between 2:49.9 and 2:51.8.

LOL:
Corvette Stingray/Gallardo 2:51.8, nex car 458 2:49.9.
A gap of 1.9 seconds!

the laptime is correct, but u have to notice that the 458 italia laptime was done by car & driver while the c7s laptime was done by GM who are a lot faster at VIR than car & driver.
for example the zr1 and zl1. c&d did 2:50.7 in the zr1, gm did 2:45.67.
c&d did 2:57 with the zl1, gm 2:52
so there is a good 5 seconds discrepancy.
i guess the c7 will do around 2:56-57 when c&d tests them.
vir is a misleading track when it comes down to performance between cars from GM and others.
if u really want to compare them, u have to go on car & drivers website

I watched the video twice. Tadge Juechter is very passionate about the Corvette, and since he is in charge of its development that is a good thing. At a bit over 23 minutes into the video he starts talking about the VIR time, and even mentions that Car and Driver use the same course for their Lightning Lap sessions. Right behind him is the 2:51.8 lap time (displayed on the wall) as he talks about it. So it is a factory lap time, and I don't think that Car and Driver will be able to match it. But I would guess that with a skilled GM engineer / race driver that it was actually accomplished. So I guess (even though I prefer Car and Driver Lightning Laps) it is correct enough.

I think it's too early for the C7 Corvette to have a lap time, it hasn't even made it into dealerships yet and dealerships are still trying to sell out their 2013 models, plus I have my doubts as to whether or not this car can beat a herd core track day car like the KTM X-Bow, even as fast as Corvettes are known to be around the VIR. I'm calling it, incorrect.
