For me.

Z06 > Viper, but ACR > ZR1. In other words, Cheaper > Expensive.

User avatar

hasn't it already beaten the vette in almost every performance category?

What do you guys think of 2008 Viper vs 2008 Corvette Z06?
The Viper has 600 HP now!

I believe this comparison test is literally relevant for your thread: at this moment Viper wins over Z06

Well if you are going to bring the ZR-1 into this, Dodge is producing a Viper ACR. Though with the probable high weight difference between the two, I'm thinking that battle may belong to Chevy.

now it is official the ZR1 release:
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/supercars/corvette-unleashes-the-mighty-zr1/

The ZR1’s basic stats:

  • All-new LS9 supercharged 6.2L V-8 targeted at producing at least 100 horsepower per liter, or 620 horsepower (462 kW), and approximately 595 lb.-ft. of torque (823 Nm)

Preliminary testing shows the ZR1 builds on the highly respected Corvette Z06 in every performance category, from acceleration and braking, to cornering grip and top speed,

said Peper. > It all boils down to the power-to-weight ratio and the ZR1’s is exceptional - better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and even the Lamborghini LP640. In fact, the ZR1 is expected to be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200 mph.

The sound is question of each persons individual taste. I like how 5 cylinder engines sound. You don't. But anyway, take a look (or shall I say "take a listen") at this - http://youtube.com/watch?v=_Dfz-FJlRcM It is an old eighties Audi 80 Quattro (4x4) with 20 valve in-line 5 cylinder engine + aftermarket turbo. The sound is just sensational. As well as the performance - the smoke it generates when it's sideways. Ah and btw, Welcome to Fastestlaps.com, 01Z06guy! Hope you like this website and find it useful.

Very cool video and thanks, I do like the website very much and find it extremely useful. It's about time somebody compiles this info and makes it usable. I just wish the database was bigger. (not your fault, of course)

The Hennessey driver might have been overzealous with the throttle and bad with turbo lag. The Viper Venom isn't that difficult to drive from what I've heard. As I understand from most reviews, the Viper is considered the better handling car. It usually scores the higher lateral g rating, and isn't as prone to wild oversteer as the Z06. The Viper's understeer was heavily revised and reduced for 08 and it can be overwritten with throttle steer whenever it gets in the way.

Have to go with the Viper. It was always better handling, now it's also faster. The only thing I want to see done to it is a major weight reduction.

I don't really agree it is better handling since maybe we should compare it to future Corvette ZR1 who will bring proper modifications to keep pace. There was a gumball I attended as copilot in Bulgaria in September 2007 in one stock Corvette Z06 and while racing on mountains roads with a Dodge Hennessey Venom (no 17 out of a limited edition of 24 pieces - http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=p23ScqiKJn0&feature=related) fitted with a huge wing, there was no way the Dodge driver could handle it there. It is also true that, while we were stuck behind him, a Subaru Impreza WRX passed by flying (they eventually win that competition, followed by a stock Merc SL 6.3 AMG and with the Corvette on third place) and once we also dubled the Viper we never made it to catch the Impreza!

This number (650) of horse powers is still a rumor.

Viper. 1.) more power
2.) bigger engine
3.) more cylinders (and therefore better sound. I like sounds of V10s and R5s better than sounds of V8s and V6s.)
4.) more impressive looks
5.) even better price/power ratio
6.) status of being the ultimate American muscle car Not sure if it will be able to beat current Z06 on track but in drag strips and street races I'll have the advantage. Btw: I wrote about Viper and it's incredible price/power ratio a month ago. https://fastestlaps.com/article46b57fb09b355.html

While I mostly agree and voted for the Viper myself, I am shocked to see you say the Viper sounds better. While more cylinders usually means better sound (like the Gallardo), the Viper just sounds like crap to me. I think it has to do with it's simultanious (sp?) firing order, making it sound like a pissed off 5 cylinder, but I don't know.

There certainly is a chance. In fact I have just done it. :D Just as you wanted - link to main-page "Back to Fastestlaps.com" in forum main menu. Actually I had also found it irritating to retype "fastestlaps.com" in Internet explorer every time when I wanted to return to main page from forum.

MUCH better!!! :D

Sorry I missed that you were talking about the 2008 Viper.... I assumed it was this one you were comparing to which is not regarded as very good

I would never consider current Viper as good as Z06. But 2008 is promising. 600 hp.

The new Viper hasn't hit the roads jet. We don't know - maybe it also has a proper handling characteristics.

P.S. Is there any chance that you could add an obvious link from the forum back to the main FL site?

Love the Viper but voted for the Vet.... for an american car the Z06 can actually handle which can't be said for the Viper!
